Teaching Children their value as Children of God
Principal's Notes
Dear parents and families,
Thank you to all who attended our PTO meeting last week. During the meeting I asked for parent volunteers to sign up for our new Enrollment Management Committee, Technology Committee, and Safety Committee. If you would like to help serve the school on any of these committees with your expertise, please send me an email.

Thank you to our local Rotary Club for coming in and graciously sharing dictionaries with our students. I assure you they will be put to good use!

If your child will be purchasing lunch in the cafeteria, please send in lunch orders tomorrow. Also, parents please remember to sign in to the office on your assigned lunch volunteer day. This is how we track our volunteer hours. If you are unable to come in on your assigned day, you are free to switch with another parent.

If you are looking for all the Halloween candy your child gets to end up somewhere other than their belly, consider donating it to Annandale Smiles!

Tuesday, November 1, we will have our All Saints Prayer Service at 1:30. This wonderful tradition is open to families and our second and eighth graders have been practicing extremely hard to prepare. We hope to see you there.

God bless,

Daniel Cinalli
McDonald's Spirit Night Tomorrow

Tomorrow night we are having another St. Michael's Spirit Night at McDonald's from 5:30-7:30. When you attend your child will receive a Halloween Dress Down Pass to be used on Monday, October 31. With the pass students may wear orange, black, and headbands or other head gear Halloween related! The address is Bradlick Shopping Center, 7010 Braddock Rd, Annandale, VA 22003.

Formation in Christian Chastity

Each year we are required by the Bishop to present a lesson plan, provided by the Diocese, devoted to the topic of   "Formation in Christian Chastity". This program is mandated by the Office of Child Protection and provides teachers and parents with resources to help inform our students about safety from the perspective of human dignity. The lessons for grades 1st through 8th will start this week , 10/27 - 11/4. If you would like to opt-out your child, please send in the form at the end of this section to the front office.
You have total access to the materials by going to the following website:

There you will find the exact lesson plans and script for the plans. The site can also answer any questions you may have regarding the justification for and reasoning behind our diocese's selection and mandating of this program. If you would like to opt your child out of these lessons, attached, please send in an opt-out form. I ask that you please complete the form and submit it to Mrs. Carlstrom no later than next Wednesday, October 26.
VIRTUS Training at St. Michael's

There will be a VIRTUS session scheduled here at St. Michael on Saturday, November 19th, at 9 a.m. in the Senior School Cafeteria. Trish Ward will be the facilitator. Maureen Carlstrom will be the St. Michael OPCYP liasion present. For individuals to sign up, they *must* do so via www.virtus.org.

Please remember that VIRTUS is only one of the components for volunteers to become "fully compliant" -- they *must* also fill out and submit the Volunteer Packet for processing by the Diocese OPCYP office.

Extra packets can be requested from the parish office, school office, or CCD office.

Saint Michael's Book Fair
The Book Fair will be open during the school day for student purchases on Monday through Wednesday October 24-26. Student wish lists will come home on Monday October 24th after they have previewed the Book Fair. If you would like your child to purchase books during the school day, please remember to send in cash or a check payable to St. Michael School with your child for their wish list purchases on Monday through Wednesday.

Volunteers are needed to help with the Book Fair. Please use the attached signup form and send it in to school, or email Mrs. Maureen Paparo at maureenpaparo@hotmail.com if you would like to volunteer to help at the Book Fair. Thank you in advance for your support!

If you have questions about the book fair, please contact our School Librarian Mrs. Patricia Wenger at patricia.wenger@stmikes22003.org.

Clinic Corner

                    VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!

Thank you to those who have already offered to volunteer for the health screening on Tuesday, November 8th.  I still could use some more volunteers to help with the three stations; vision, hearing, and height/weight. Please send in the form that was sent home last week, or email me at: roni.jarvis@stmikes22003.org, or call the clinic.
