Teaching Children their value as Children of God
Principal's Notes
Dear parents and families,

Yesterday, America came together to elect the next president, and other leaders, of our country. Wherever your opinion on Mr. Trump may lie, I do ask that you take some time to pray for him to lead our country in a manner that ensures the safety of our children and our Faith for the future.

Fr. Drummond and I visited the each classroom today to pass out the report cards to the students. Please sign and send in the report card tomorrow, or bring it to your conference. As I discussed at Back to School Night, the Scantron test results will be shared with 3rd-7th grade parents at conferences.

Thursday is an 11:30 dismissal day (AfterCare is available until 6:00) and Friday we have no school for parent teacher conferences. Please be on time for your conference since our teachers' schedules are very tight over the next two days.

This week we are saying goodbye to Sr. Agatha, who will be returning to Poland. Sr. Agatha has been assisting in Pre-K, as well as helping and visiting other classrooms, when her time allowed. She loved working with your children and being a member, however briefly, of our school community. Please keep her in your prayers for safe travel and God's blessings!

We are now accepting applications for financial aid and are pleased to announce that St. Michael Catholic School will again be using FACTS as a tool for assessment. Applications must be done online . Please keep in mind these dates: If you have children in both a diocesan high school and at St. Michaels, you must submit your application by  January 20, 2017  to receive aid from both institutions.  If you just have a student(s) at St. Michaels, you MUST apply before  March 3, 2017 .   Applications submitted after that date will be considered, but the majority of the funds we are awarded from the diocese will have been distributed. More information and links are below.

God bless,

Daniel Cinalli
Principal

Please spread the word to anyone and everyone that we have two open houses that week, one on Tuesday from 9:00-11:00 AM and another on Thursday from 1:00-3:00. A presentation will be given, as well as tours of our school.

Turkey Trot and Poinsettias Sale

We have two fundraisers on the horizon!

Firstly, the Turkey Trot will be on November 23. Forms went home today and extras are available in the office. The minimum needed to participate is $15, and $60 gets the students a ice cream and movie afternoon with Mr. Muha. We also have shirts available to order for the event. If you purchase the shirt, you will be able to wear it on PE days during December! Click here to see the Turkey Trot T-Shirt Order Form.

The Poinsettia sale has begun. We will be selling Poinsettias outside of the Church this weekend (the 5th and 6th), and next weekend (the 12-13). Please tell your friends!  For more information please click here for the flyer.

It is important to remember that most unintentional (or accidental) poisonings occur in the home.  Many involve children under six years old, but even adults can make mistakes with medicines or chemicals. The following tips from the Virginia Poison Control Center can help prevent most poisonings from happening:

  • Keep all household chemicals and medications out of sight in a locked cabinet.  Putting things "up high" is not safe enough since many young children are fearless climbers.
  • Always store chemicals, cleaners, and medications in their original containers. Many poisonings occur when a product is put into an unlabeled jar, plastic bag or box.  Even adults can be fooled by laundry bleach in a beverage glass- it looks like lemonade!
  • Carefully read and follow the directions on all medicines.
  • Use child resistant caps on bottles, but realize that these are not "child proof" and many children can open them; it just takes a little more time.  These caps are still an important tool in making the home more "poison proof".
  • Have a working carbon monoxide alarm in the home.
  • Post the telephone number for your poison control center near the telephone or in your cell phone contacts along with the other emergency numbers.  Throughout the USA the number is 1-800-222-1222. Call right away if you suspect a poisoning.  The experts there will tell you what to do.  Many poisonings can be safely treated without going to the doctor when you have the fast, free, and confidential help of the poison control center.
  • There are free poison control stickers available in the St. Michael Clinic, or you may call the Virginia Poison Control Center's non-emergency number 804-828-4780 or go to www.vapoison.org for free poison prevention brochures and stickers.
