Father's message
My Beloved Friends and Parishioners of the Saint Spyridon family,
Christ is Risen!
Today, we celebrate St Thomas the Apostle. Too often we remember him only as a doubter. But he is not one who doubted throughout his life. Thomas said: Unless I see, unless I probe the Resurrection, I cannot believe you. But unlike the other disciples, Thomas is the only one who confessed Christ as: “My Lord and my God.”
We had a blessed Great Lent and a beautiful Holy Week and Pascha. I would like to thank each one of you who gave your time and energy to make this Feast of Feasts a spiritual journey to the heart of our Christian faith.
May you and your loved ones share in the Love, Peace and Joy of this Holy Pascha.
Christ is Risen!
Fr. Nicolas

Hymns of the Day
Apolytikion of Great and Holy Pascha in the Plagal First Mode
Christ is risen from the dead, by death, trampling down upon death, and to those in the tombs He has granted life.
Apolytikion for Thomas Sun. in the Grave Mode
Whilst the tomb was sealed, Thou, O Life, didst shine forth from the grave, O Christ God; and whilst the doors were shut, Thou didst come unto Thy disciples, O Resurrection of all, renewing through them an upright Spirit in us according to Thy great mercy.
Seasonal Kontakion in the Plagal Fourth Mode
Though You went down into the tomb, You destroyed Hades' power, and You rose the victor, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women, "Hail!" and granting peace to Your disciples, You who raise up the fallen.
Matins Gospel Reading
First Orthros Gospel -The Reading is from Matthew 28:16-20
At that time, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. Amen."
First Orthros Gospel -Κατὰ Ματθαῖον 28:16-20
  Epistle Reading
Prokeimenon. Fourth Mode. Psalm 146.5;134.3. -Great is our Lord, and great is his power. -Verse: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good. -The reading is from Acts of the Apostles 5:12-20. In those days, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life."
Fourth Mode.
  Liturgical Gospel Reading
Thomas Sunday -The Reading is from John 20:19-31
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe." Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

Restoration, Phase 3 is about to start.
We need your help! God bless you.
Beloved Friends and Parishioners of Saint Spyridon,
We are pleased to announce that the efforts for the restoration project of the Church are moving forward thanks to the generosity of the members of the community and of the larger St. Spyridon family. Phase 1 of the project is completed: the altar and the side aisles are restored. Many have witnessed the transformation of our beautiful church and have rediscovered the priceless works of the famous iconographers and artists that adorn the church, including Georgios Gliatas, a student of Fotis Kontoglou Nicholas Stratoulis, Constantine Youssis, Demetrius Pelekasis and Nicholas Engonopoulos. The series depicting the life of Christ on the iconostasis, is the only Byzantine work Engonopoulos has ever done. Completion of Phase 2 (upper level of the nave, dome, Evangelismos, etc.) Completion is scheduled for mid-March. While working in the dome, we encountered a few unforeseen obstacles: nine windows were broken, the concrete windowsills had to be replaced due to water damage, the duct work was in poor condition. We are looking forward to celebrating Holy Week and Easter, offering a unique Orthodox liturgical experience. And now Phase 3 , the balcony. Initially we had planned on starting this project in September, but we were informed by the scaffolding company that we could save $ 15,000 if we had the scaffolding moved directly into the balcony. The Parish Council being prudent with the funds raised and since it is cost effective, decided to move the scaffolding beginning of March to the balcony and begin in the final phase of the restoration project! We have been blessed to have parishioners, alumni, families and friends of St. Spyridon help us raise close to $ 400,000. However, we are still trying to raise the final $ 40,000 to complete the project. We would greatly appreciate any donation to help us continue with this crucial ministry of the church to preserve and promote our Greek Orthodox heritage in this beautiful country. Together, we know we can do it! Learn more about the restoration progress by visiting our website or by following us on Facebook. Upon completion of our restoration, a plaque will be created displaying the names of all our donors.
Sincerely yours,

In Times of Illness
"Come, O blessed of my father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was sick and you visited me." (Matt. 25:31-46).
When a member of our Parish is ill and has been hospitalized or may be recuperating at home, the immediate family of the ill person should contact Father Nicolas at  (212) 795-5870. It is beneficial to both the body and the soul when our priest prays for us when we are healthy or ill.

Seniors News
Our Seniors start meeting again every Tuesday and Thursday from 12pm to 2pm at church.Welcome back! God bless you. This ministry's significance for our community goes without saying.
Library News
W e are extremely excited to announce that our community is starting a parish library in the conference room. We already have a small selection of excellent books, especially for children. At this point, we need to increase the number of books and find one or two volunteers to start setting it up. If you are interested, please come and talk to me or call the church office.
