Dear St. John Paul II Families,
Happy Tuesday! It is the Month of May – this is a special time for us as Catholics to honor our Blessed Mother Mary. Her life in the Gospels is one of service and a great devotion to Jesus. Her life challenges us to follow in her example of humility, obedience, and service to God. I am excited to share in the love of our Blessed Mother with our StJPII community this Friday as we celebrate May Crowning.
Have a blessed week,

P.S. Thank you for your responses to the 2017 Parent Survey!

May Crowning this Friday
This Friday, May 5, we will honor Mary during the 8:30 a.m. All-School Mass.
Each student should bring a fresh flower for the May Crowning ceremony. Students do not need to bring a full bouquet...just one or two fresh flowers, even from your yard. We are looking forward to this special celebration of our mother Mary.

Advertising Sales / Online Student Directory
For the 2017-2018 school year, our Student Directory will be completely online!
Benefits:
- Free!
- Convenient & Secure! Available on your computer or phone through the secure Parent Portal app.
- Current! If your friends move, you will always have the most up-to-date contact information at your fingertips.
More good news - you may sell advertisements to fulfill your 2017-2018 Family Commitment. Instead of selling printed School Directory ads that have a very limited reach, you may sell online advertising space in Saints Weekly, which has a much wider audience. You will get DOLLAR for DOLLAR credit for whatever you choose to sell. Please be sure to consult the Company List before approaching any businesses because some families have established relationships with many vendors.
Please use the attached form when selling your ads. We hope you find this a welcome change; we are excited about offering you this convenient upgrade.

Book Fair, Summer Reading and Inventory
A Big Thank YOU to everyone for supporting the Spring Book Fair! We sold almost $10,000 in books! After tax, we keep 25% of those funds for library books. I also want to thank our 7th graders for being helpers with our younger students! And, certainly, I wish to thank Mrs. Ventura, Mrs. Halim, Mrs. Mills and many parent volunteers who helped make the fair a success. Kudos to YOU! I hope many of you took the opportunity to purchase your summer reading titles from the fair. If you did not have the chance, then you will find that Blue Willow Bookshop on Memorial Drive at Dairy Ashford will have our list and will obtain these books for you. They have a lovely and helpful staff who can make suggestions on reading, gifts, and much more. I hope you will take the time to stop by and see their many offerings.
Summer is approaching and inventory in the library will begin soon. Please make sure your child returns all books, fines, and materials to the library on time. We will be closing soon to begin the inventory process for the 17,000 items in the library. Thank you for your support to our school library program. Look for suggestions and much more on the library resources link on the library page on the school website. There are helpful tips, links and more.
Happy May Day! Ms. Lamb

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION
Volunteer registration for Fun in the Sun is now open! We need VIRTUS trained volunteers to work both morning and afternoon shifts.
Please note: Parent volunteers are not allowed to bring younger siblings on campus, including young babies in strollers. Due to space limitations and for safety concerns, we only have room on campus for parent volunteers during FITS. Non-volunteer parents will only be given visitor passes for Mass and/or the end-of-day assembly.
|
|
FITS is only 25 days away, don’t forget that each child must be registered by May 12.

Ambassador Families
Thank you to everyone who volunteered to be an ambassador to our new families! The last call for volunteers allowed us to have enough volunteers to make good matches for the new families--just in time for the
Saints Welcome
event last week. The new families enjoyed meeting their Ambassadors for the first time!
If you did not receive a NEW FAMILY ASSIGNMENT email and/or an envelope with your new family’s information within the last two weeks, you are still in our “bank” of volunteers, and could be assigned to a new family in the coming weeks. We have not matched all the families yet, and new families continue to register. We do our best to match students who are in the same grade, same gender, and who may live close to one another. So, if you have not been picked, don’t worry…you still may! It’s all based on the new families that come in. For example, normally, we try not to match a middle school family with a lower elementary family, and vice versa, since their experiences and knowledge are likely to be very different. This is why it’s important to have extra volunteers on hand to match with new families immediately.
Thank you again for volunteering to welcome these families into our StJPII community. Please continue to check your email for new family assignments and read Saints Weekly for updates. If you have any questions, please contact Ambassador Coordinator Mary Beyer.

Marcos Pizza Fundraiser
Let’s rally families to participate in the last contest of the year this Thursday, May 4! Votes tend to be spread out, so individual homeroom counts are low, making it easy to win! The homeroom with the most orders wins a FREE PIZZA PARTY! Check your child’s Tuesday Folder for the flyer or click

5 Benefits of Volunteering for Elementary Sports at StJPII
1. StJPII cannot offer Elementary Sports without you!
We need you!! All of our coaches are volunteer approved parents. As a coach, you will have the entire StJPII family behind you for support along with coaching clinics and our Positive Coaching online classes.
2. You’ll get to spend more time with your child!
Your child might only be 6-years-old now but there will come a time that she will naturally start to spend more time with friends and teammates and less time hanging out with mom and dad. Coaching his or her team is a wonderful way to keep a strong connection.
3. You’ll expand your social network!
Let’s face it, it’s not always easy for busy adults to make new friends. But getting involved in our kids’ teams can be an introduction to like-minded families who value physical activity and sometimes life- long bonds are forged.
4. You’ll come away with a sense of pride and accomplishment!
Goals don’t always need to be that huge … hitting the ball for the first time can be just as rewarding as hitting a home run to a player and to a coach who has worked tirelessly on helping that player reach that milestone.
5. You’ll have fun!
The number one reason kids play a sport is because it’s fun. And honestly, so is coaching. Remember, kids STOP playing sports when they stop having fun.
For more information on how to become a coach, please email Deanne Gordon. For additional information on how to become StJPII Volunteer approved, see the StJPII Website under “Parent Corner”.
