Meet the Dharma Path Teacher Training Faculty
This Month:   Louis Jackson & Anirudh Shastri

Louis Jackson:
Anatomy and Physiology

"Okay.  Let's be honest.  Unless you're an anatomy nerd like me who gets excited by stomachs, livers, spinal vertebra with their cool curves  and chords within, highways of nerves, intersections of arteries, lung tissue pulsing, fascia pulling and hugging muscle bundles to pelvic bones and tugging...Wait a minute. Let me calm down...

Unless you're fascinated by the human body, the prospect of having to study anatomy probably illicits a spectrum of emotions ranging from boredom to fear; from frustration to disgust.

No worries.   The focus of this 3-part, 12-hour Anatomy Module is the study of breathing. Quality of breath is the primary measure of the yogis progress.  We'll use the anatomy of breathing as a template to study the body's splendor. "

Anirudh Shastri:
Philosophy

"Yoga philosophy does not encourage us to accept anything as blind principle.  It asks us to  open the eyes and see. It gives us tools to awaken us.  Also, it do es not say anything about your truth and my truth.  It simply directs our vision and gives us the capacity to see, the eyes so that whatever is there becomes known to us. It is impressive to conceive that one man, Patanjali, has put together the whole science of yoga where nothing is lacking.
This science is an invitation to humanity to come home to their Self.

I expect the students to come with an open mind to absorb the yoga philosophy and apply it in their daily lives. Yoga philosophy is a practical tool to see the life as it is rather than what we think.   It is to awaken our latent qualities and abilities that lead to happy living. "

Ben Thomas, The Zen of Teaching and Leslie Howard!
Ben Thomas: The Splendor Within (Sutra 1.3)
Two Saturdays - Part I: October 1st & Part II: October 8th
12:30-3:30   $75 per day

We'll begin the workshop with an opening ritual and a 5-10 minute talk about the themes:  Our accumulated experience, the collective wisdom, and our 20th and 21st century environment and learning to enjoy these times together.

The workshop will include asanas, a focus on applied Pranayama, and experiencing Meditation within the practice.  Our asanas will include those that are available to most practitioners and some that will offer more challenge.

I will be interspersing many insights, philosophical concepts, and shedding light on life's teachings, light on our Self, and the challenges and joys of the sustained practice.

The Zen of Teaching   w/Amy Rogg & Devin Begley
Two Saturdays - Part I: October 29th & Part II: November 5th
12:30-3:30       $120.00

The Zen of Teaching will guide students toward utilizing their talents, values, unique energy signatures, and personal experiences to become more effective teachers.  We will breakdown the use of internal energy and how it can be joined with external expression to create a holistic and harmonious balance for teaching yoga.

Course objectives include:
  • Tapping into intuition
  • Trusting your choices
  • Fostering connection
  • The philosophy of flow
  • How to find your voice
  • Remaining present
  • Remaining authentic
  • Working with insecurity
  • Sharing your gifts
  • Letting go of perfection
  • Creating atmosphere
We will traverse these topics with the principals of Cymatics (the science of how vibration affects matter), Acting ( the art of being human), diving into a safe space with group games, personal stories, and a bit of writing. Students will take away a greater understanding of how to cultivate a truthful and empowered experience, both for themselves and the people they teach. Amy Rogg and Devin Begley have both been trained in Acting and the Healing Arts.

A Weekend with Leslie Howard
Saturday December 10th and Sunday December 11th
12:30-3:30        $150.00

Proper strengthening and stabilizing of the pelvic floor helps to create the correct foundation of each movement in the body. This is the true meaning of "core work." Whether you experience any of these conditions, or are just plain curious about this region of the body, this  workshop  is for you:
  • pelvic pain
  • lower back, hip or groin problems
  • discomfort during sex or while using tampons
  • skin irritation
  • leak when laughing or sneezing
  • have to go the bathroom too often
  • prolapsed organs
  • pregnancy and birth
In this workshop we will locate, assess, soften, stretch, strengthen and exercise the muscle groups of the pelvic floor, discuss mula bandha, abdominal health and how to utilize the pelvic floor in asana. The first day of the workshop will begin with anatomy, lecture and discussion, followed by subtle experiential movements to awaken your understanding of this often ignored area. A series of specific exercises and asanas for the pelvicfloor will follow. We will look at therapeutic application of postures and breathing for different conditions.  Handouts will be provided. Bring your friends, sisters, mothers and daughters. Although helpful, no yoga experience is required. This workshop qualifies for continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance.

Bio: Leslie Howard is a San Francisco-based yoga teacher, specializing in all things pelvic. She leads workshops and trainings nationally and is writing a book about the female pelvis. Her own struggles with healing her hips and pelvis led her to intense study of the anatomy, physiology, cultural messaging, history and energetics of this rich place. Her teaching is informed by over 3500 hours of yoga study with senior Iyengar yoga teachers, notably Manouso Manos and Patricia Walden.  She considers Ramanand Patel her most important influence and mentor. She designed a successful study for University of California, SF on yoga for incontinence with Judith Lasater. She has another study underway with UCSF for Yoga for Pelvic Pain.  To learn more about Leslie, visit: www.lesliehowardyoga.com

NEW MAT POLICY

As much as we really want you to bring your own yoga mat to class, sometimes it just doesn't happen.  Maybe you left your favorite mat in the trunk of the other car.  Or outside overnight where it was soaked by the sprinklers.  Perhaps that new puppy thought it was a chew toy.
We get it.
Stuff happens.
And so, to help you through those moments when your body arrives for class but your mat doesn't...
Samyama is now renting yoga mats at $5.00 per class.
