China has been very much in the news with President Xi outlining his sweeping vision for China to make it a leading world power by 2050 in a 3.5 hour speech. Hence it is fitting that our Super Stat for this edition is from China.

Malaysia has advanced two spots to 23rd place out of 137 economies, consolidating its position among the world's top 30 most competitive economies.  Malaysia's research output grew five-fold within ten years, from 3,843 scientific research publications in 2007 to 19,176 in 2016, said Idris Jusoh, Malaysia's Higher Education minister.

The number of UAE students enrolled at US higher education institutions in the 2015-16 academic year grew to 2,920, a 1.5% increase from the previous year's figure for the sixth consecutive year.  Minister of State for Higher Education and Chairman of the UAE Space Agency, said that hosting the 71st International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in the UAE in 2020 will highlight the outstanding status of the UAE's national space sector.
