Clayes House
Issue No.8October 23, 2013

Dear Friend,

Are you willing and able to help us clean up the Clayes House property in time for winter?  Then please read on!

Last week, right after I sent out Part 1 of this newsletter, a number of us walked through the house and property, and a local contractor suggested that as a first step to saving the house, we clear all the invasive brush that surrounds the house.  Some of this brush is growing into the foundation and the windows of the house, so clearing it is a relatively simple way of protecting it.

We are looking for your help with this project.  Please contact me -- jthompson@sarahclayeshouse.org -- if you can assist by doing any or all of the following:

1.  You are a landscaper who has the use of a "brush hog" or other dense brush-clearing machinery, and are willing to donate your time and the use of the machine to cut down the densest growth;

2.   You know and can recruit a landscaper who has the use of a "brush hog" or other dense brush-clearing machinery, and who is willing to donate his/her time and the use of the machine to cut down the densest growth;

3.   You would like to join a work party in the next month or so to clear smaller brush from the property and/or can haul material away to your yard or other location; and/or

4.   You would like to make a donation to help the project.

Please contact me as soon as possible -- the winter is coming!!!

PLEASE NOTE: We do not yet own this property, though the Town of Framingham knows our interest in it and understands that we are trying to ensure the safety of the house through the upcoming winter.

As we have reported in past e-newsletters, we are still in active conversations with the bank that owns the house, and we hope that the donation is imminent. With the winter coming, however, we want to do what we can to protect the property in the meantime.  Please see the website for more information on the history and current status of the project.

Cheers --

Come See Me Reenact Sarah in Framingham's Old Burying Ground!

As part of the Framingham History Center's upcoming "Voices from the Old Burying Ground" I will be playing Sarah as one of the historic characters participants can visit.  It hasn't been proven historically, but it is rumored that Sarah is buried there, and the oldest gravestone is marked with the day in 1704 that she died.  Other characters will be Jonathan Maynard, the Buckminsters, and Peter Salem.  Click here for more information and to register.  The date of the event is Saturday, October 26th at 4 pm (rain date October 27th).
