Where do you currently work?
I manage the PACOM/Asia-Pacific and DoD strategy portfolios for Chairman McCain on the Senate Armed Services Committee. Right now we are conducting a series of hearings with non-government witness on the future size, shape, and service roles and missions of the military.
How did you get involved with Sasakawa USA?
I was fortunate to be selected as the inaugural American fellow for the SPF program at Pacific Forum CSIS in September 2010. This was a career-changing opportunity for me that brought me to Tokyo and numerous conference in the region for a total of 6 months.
How has learning about Japan affected your work?
The fellowship introduced me to a whole network of American and Japanese alliance hands that I have interacted with almost daily in my current job for the Committee and my previous job for Congressman J. Randy Forbes. That alone has been a major advantage for my professional work.
What is your favorite thing about Japan? The excellent food, obviously! But I have always enjoyed the hospitality of my Japanese friends and colleagues whenever I visit.
