This Saturday April 28th is going to be a big evening at the Tom Wood Group Indianapolis Speedrome powered by Lincoln Tech. The racing roster includes the Steve Ott Memorial 40 for the Shelbyville Auto Parts Thundercars, a $2,000-to-win 75-lap Figure 8 for the Brown’s Oil Service Late Models, and the season debut for the USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series as well as clashes for the Last Chance Wrecker Factory Front Wheel Drives and the Adult Faskarts. The first green flag flies at 7pm.
The Thundercars race in honor of Steve Ott this Saturday. On September 15, 2007 Steve Ott realized his dreams of winning a racing championship and less than 24 hours later, he was gone. It was a shocking time for his family and it left an empty feeling in the Speedrome pit area the following weeks. Steve had battled all season long against some tough competition to capture the inaugural Roadrunner (now Thundercar) Chase for the Cup. Steve was a hard-working family-man who spent his spare time working on his racecar, a snapshot of what makes a Speedrome racer special. Steve is gone, but certainly not forgotten. We are left with the vision of his smiling face during his 2007 title celebration.
2018’s wild, wild Figure 8 action continues with 75-laps on tap for the Brown’s Oil Service Late Models. Points event #999 for the division (stay tuned for a special announcement for #1,000) will have many talented competitors on hand vying to derail Austin Tunny who has captured 3 of the 5 crossover events this year. Chad Sizemore and Ben Tunny have also won. Current top ten standings ace’s looking for a first season victory are Steve Durham, Jesse Tunny, Mike Riddle Jr, Donnie Murphy, Matt Smith, Quentin White, and Nick Moore.
The USSA Mel Kenyon Midget Series is kicking off their 10th anniversary campaign here at the Speedrome. See the classic open-wheel racing that the track was originally built for back in 1941. The Last Chance Wrecker Factory Front Wheel Drives return to round out April after a huge 42-car gathering last week produced 2 new winners. And reigning champion Cody Kennedy will take on all challengers for round two of the 2018 Adult Faskart championship. Tickets are just $10. $8 for seniors, veterans, military, and first responders. $5 for children ages 9 to 12 and free for those under 9.
