Dear Volunteer,

Due to the Excessive Heat Warning for the Chicago area and with the forecast temperatures, all runs on Saturday are cancelled. The EAS flagging system has tomorrow at a red/black day, which means the run should not go on.

It is supposed to be considerably cooler on Sunday, so we recommend runners complete the distance on Sunday, if possible. All runners are welcome to join our Montrose Sunday 6:30 a.m. group.

What to do if you can't run on Sunday:

  • Take your run indoors. Use the local YMCA, park district or your fitness facility and hit the track or treadmill. You may also hop on the elliptical or other cardio machine. Use that machine for the amount of time it would take you to complete the run. For example, if you run 10 minute miles and are following the novice mileage (10 miles), complete 100 minutes of cardio. Feel free to break it up among the different machines.
  • Do NOT attempt to squeeze the run in sometime next week. It's important to get the mileage in, but not at the risk of over-training.

Remember, we're cancelling for your safety and upon the advice of our Medical Committee. Our ultimate goal is to get to race day healthy!

Thanks for your understanding and happy running!
