YLF UPDATE:  Our Progress:

We are currently working on:

1.  Where to meet

2.  Retention rates

3.  Event/meeting structure (what do we do, and when... for example, should we have 10 minutes of learning and the rest is mostly fun activities and social interaction?)

4.  Our measurable objectives

YLF has four main programs we offer: Volunteer Facilitation, Mentoring, Peer Mentoring, and Leadership.

To keep everyone in the loop, here are our measurable objectives (and you can see where we are going as an organization!)

Again, if you like what we do, please support us by clicking here to donate...

==>Objectives - Leadership

Our youth will:

Know that leading involves action.

Know the difference between identifying a problem and addressing a problem.

Identify their own style of leadership.  As leaders, do they ask for input, tell others what to do, or use a combination of those two leadership styles?

Experience leading peers in a group setting.

Evaluate how leadership can affect a situation.

Demonstrate the ability to negotiate uncertainty, and possibly conflict, while still pursuing a goal.  Uncertainty happens when others present ideas.

==>Objectives - Volunteer Facilitation

To promote the opportunity for youth who identify as experiencing disability  to participate in the community.

To promote the opportunity for youth who identify as experiencing disability to enhance the community.

To ensure youth demonstrate an understanding that volunteering in the community is important and nourishes the community.

Our youth will:

Demonstrate an understanding that volunteering in the community is leading in the community, and therefore youth volunteers are leaders.

Demonstrate the ability to instigate volunteer action on their own by choosing amongst volunteer options.  This results in sustainability both on the improvement of the individual and our society.

Know that volunteering can help one learn more about oneself.

Recognize that volunteering can be listed on a resume, or can be used in the job search, and therefore can enhance employability.

==>Mentoring Objectives

The mentoring program aims to:

  • Facilitate potential and skill development for our current and future leaders

  • Offer visibility and the opportunity for networking

  • Help the mentee navigate barriers to community inclusion

  • Offer the mentee the opportunity of acquiring new knowledge and skills by understanding the mentor's practical experience.

Mission Statement:
The Youth Legacy Foundation engages youth in humanitarian, charitable, and service activities to empower them to lead exemplary lives and create their legacies in the community while making a difference and changing the world.
