A Perspective on the RDVM - Specialist Relationship

I recently read a great article about the RDVM - Specialist Relationship. The points it made struck me profoundly, especially that "Timely communication and trust are the keys to successful relationships."

Amongst all of the important directives and suggestions the article suggests is this overarching theme: Everyone on the pet's team wants the best for the pet. The team that cares for the pet that requires advanced veterinary care is truly a triad, made up of the pet caretaker, the primary care veterinarian and the neurologist - but I view you, the primary care veterinarian, as my most important "client" since you are the one who brings all together.

One of my biggest challenges is to reach everyone on the pet's team in a timely matter. Typically I email (or fax) the primary care veterinarian within 24 hours of seeing the patient; and I try to call the primary care veterinarian when the patient is undergoing, or has completed, testing or surgery.
Sometimes, I get it right, sometimes I don't.

Please let me know how I can improve my communications with you. I am only here because of your trust, care and direction.

                                      Sincerely,
                                      Jay

Vet on call Breakfast or Lunch 'n Learn
With Kevin & Cheryl

Referring veterinarian teams: Let us treat you to breakfast or lunch, and learn more about veterinary neurology and veterinary imaging.

VNoC and VIoC practice manager Cheryl Arnold, CVPM, and VIoC Chief of Imaging Kevin C. Stevens, RT, (R)(MR) will cover a broad range of topics include how to refer, what your clients can expect, the types of images our MRI can provide, and lots more.

To schedule, email carnold@vetneurochesapeake.com and Cheryl will call to arrange a date.

Amy, A Happy Tail

The photo of Amy shown at left is a bit unusual because you rarely see Amy without her brother and littermate, Alex.

"We got them from a vet when they were not yet a year old," explains Bill, who owns the duo with his best friend, Dehart. "We could have taken just one, but they'd been together their whole lives, and we didn't want to separate them. They're typical boxers, full of energy. Then about a year and a half ago Amy started having seizures. Even with medication, the seizures kept getting closer together, so our vet recommended we see Dr. McDonnell."

An MRI at Veterinary Imaging of the Chesapeake revealed Amy had a brain tumor. "I asked Dr. McDonnell if she were his dog, would he operate on her, and he said 'Absolutely,' Bill continues.
"And ever since her surgery, she's continued to get better each day." MORE>>
