In Paris in the early 1990s, a group of activists goes to battle for those stricken with HIV/AIDS, taking on sluggish government agencies and major pharmaceutical companies in bold, invasive actions. The organization is ACT UP, and its members, many of them gay and HIV-positive, embrace their mission with a literal life-or-death urgency. Amid rallies, protests, fierce debates and ecstatic dance parties, the newcomer Nathan falls in love with Sean, the group's radical firebrand, and their passion sparks against the shadow of mortality as the activists fight for a breakthrough.  Read more

Last Chance to Reserve your bottles or cases prior to Thanksgiving!

Last year, while visiting the Bordeaux and the Loire Valley, AFMSP members visited and tasted Domaine Bourillon Dorléans. Now we invite you to enjoy their wines in Minnesota!

Frederic Bourillon's family have been making wine at Rochecorbon for many generations. Documents show the estate was founded in 1875, but it was in the 1921 that Frédéric's great grandfather, Gaston, started to organize the estate as it is today. Since taking over, Frédéric has been a leading figure among younger Vouvray producers, developing earlier-drinking, more user-friendly styles of Vouvray, while maintaining the tradition of laying down great botrytis sweet wines in the best years. Fred is an amusing and original wine marketer, as well as a patron of the fine art of tufa cellar sculpture...as a visit to his wonderful 15 century cellars will testify.

Available Wines Include:
  • Vouvray, Bourillon-Dorleans, Vielles-Vignes, La Coulée d'Argent, Sec, 2015
Light, bright gold. Racy, mineral-driven aromas of quince, lime and jasmine, with a strong undercurrent of talc. Firm and focused but not hard, offering tangy citrus and orchard fruit flavors and a touch of candied flowers. Finishes with very good sappy persistence and an echo of bitter quinine. -Josh Raynolds

  • Vouvray, Bourillon-Dorleans, La Bourdonnerie, Demi-Sec, 2014
Light, bright yellow. Fresh pear and nectarine aromas are complicated by dusty mineral and quinine qualities, with a touch of beeswax gaining power with air. Bitter pear skin and citrus pith flavors are complemented by a sweeter, deeper melon note and pick up a touch of anise on the back half. Already shows very good complexity but the zesty base of minerality suggests that this will reward patience. -Josh Raynolds

  • Vouvray, Bourillon-Dorleans, Helene Dorleans, Sparkling Brut, NV

Available at $22/bottle or $20/bottle when purchasing a 12 bottle case

Contact AFMSP to reserve your bottles! 612 332 0436

Perfectly designed with the preschooler in mind, and inspired by the classic French film  Le Ballon Rouge, rediscover play in this back by popular demand production!

Friday, Nov 17: French Performance in St Kate's Jean d'Arc Auditorium
Lettres de femmes/Femmes de lettres
Designed by the Théâtre de la Chandelle Verte and performed by artist and founding Chandelle troupe member, Francine Conley, each woman brought to life on stage showcases how over six centuries women continued (and still) write against silence.  The multimedia performance is in French, but is visually adapted for audiences who don't necessarily speak the language, as much as it is for those learning and/or fluent in French.

Those we include in a narrative that explores the ideas of letters include, Marie de France (12e), Christine de Pisan (1363-1434), Marguerite de Navarre (1492-1549), Madame de Lafayette (1634-1693), Madame de Sévigné (1626-1696), Olympe de Gouges (1748-1793), Camille Claudel (1864-1943), Colette (1873-1954), Marguerite Duras (1914-1996), and Fatou Diome (1968-).

The show starts at 7pm, lasts around 50-55 minutes (without intermission), and is followed by a talk back for students.  It is free, but reservations are recommended. Email Anh-Hoa to make your reservation.
