Did you hear.... Abigail Schimpf is leading the 70th Annual WSCGA State Amateur Championship.

2 Under Par - 70

WooHoo!

What a wonderful day for the first round of the 70th Annual WSCGA State Amateur Championship. It was as if it was a nice Fall day, overcast, high of 77, with a steady breeze at The Members Club at Woodcreek. The course was close to pure and pace of play as consistent as the Belmont Stakes. Taking the early lead is Daniel Island Club member Abigail Schimpf firing a two under par 70 who is coming of a tournament win at The Foundation Junior Championship last month. Schimpf was nothing but consistent with having 16 pars and two birdies for the day. Two shots behind Schimpf is recent LSU graduate Kelly Murphy with an even par 72 on her home course. Three players are tied for third including 7 time defending champion Dawn Woodard with a 74. Jacqueline Twitty and Savannah Hylton also fired a 74 for the day.
