School News
There are a lot of amazing events going on in our district. Interested in getting out into the community or looking for ideas?
Osgoode Township High School Teachers Culinary Skills On Display
Osgoode Township High School staff and students have a long tradition of supporting the annual United Way Ottawa campaign. The most popular event is the United Way Staff and Student Lunches: Silent Auction. Almost $3,000 has been raised to date by auctioning off meals which are prepared and served by staff.
Every December,10 different lunch menus are posted at the school in a silent auction format. Bidding closes on December 21st at noon. As the clock ticks down on the last day, student teams stand close to the “bidding box” trying to win their lunch prepared by their teachers. Winning bids can often top $100 for a meal! Each menu is served to the winning team at some time during the rest of the school year. One of the great things about this fundraiser is …. not only are the students raising money for a great community cause, they are getting to spend time with their teachers over a great meal.

Tips and Tricks
How to Make Math Less Intimidating for Children
Mathl anxiety is real and it affects many children – and even some adults. When children find math intimidating, they often fail to build essential math skills, causing them to struggle with math.
So what can parents do?
Math, Science, English, French all Subjects are Important!
While mathematics is very important so are all the other subjects taught in school. Instead of forcing math on children, let them work on it naturally and take breaks when they feel overwhelmed.
Help Children “See” the Math
Use objects to represent the numbers in the problem or incorporate videos into math instruction. Help children learn about math in a fun and interesting way.
Incorporate it into Everyday Activities
Bringing math into everyday activities helps it feel less intimidating. You can count objects as you walk around the house, measure as you bake or split a dozen cookies among friends.
