 Deliberative Session Update
January 31, 2011
Greetings!

The annual Salem School District Deliberative Session is Thursday evening, February 10th, 7pm, at Salem High School auditorium.  This year, there are six Warrant Articles, including the operating budget, proposed for the March ballot.  The purpose of the Deliberative Session is to present and discuss all Warrant Articles and vote on moving them to the ballot.

This year's budget has sustained some Budget Committee reductions, for which the School District is seeking partial restoration, and this requires consideration by voters in the Salem community.  Your attendance at this meeting is very important - YOU make a difference.  Please read below for more details.

Budget Restorations

The school district is seeking to restore approximately half of the Budget Committee cuts, including $125,000 for technology, funds for critical staff positions, and a wage pool for enabling merit raises.   If technology funds are not restored, there will be no money in the budget for new or replacement technology purchases during the 2011/2012 school year.

Warrant Articles

The Warrant Articles pertain to the operating budget and collective bargaining agreements for staff and teacher wage increases.  Most staff have not received raises in at least 2 years.  The proposed increases range from 1.58% to 2.75%.  All the Warrant Articles, with the exception of increases for food service workers, were passed with recommendation by the Budget Committee.

The 2011 Warrant Articles are available for your review.  Click here to get your copy from the Salem School District web site.
