In the Beginning…
“And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:25 ESV

At the beginning of each school year there is hopeful enthusiasm about ‘what could be.’ Maybe this will be the year you will be on top of those teacher observations and get them all done early! Maybe this will be the year there will be no major budget issues for once. Or we hope that we can avoid conflict with staff, students, parents and the board.

When God first weaved His Creation, He saw that it was good. His plan for man to live in harmony with Him and within His Will had begun. Then humans came along and brought with us Original Sin. We still live in this fallen and imperfect world where we experience the true nature of imperfect people. Gossip, envy, control and the desire to eat of the tree which God says to stay away from! Yet Satan slips in his lies and our world becomes full of trouble.

The wonderful truth of God’s plan however, does not end with misery and despair. God saw our need for a Savior and delivered the very precious blood of His Son, while we were yet far away from Him. He saved us by Grace through His Son’s death and resurrection. When God sees us as the Redeemed, Baptized child of God that we are. He restores us to a “good place” with Him.

As you begin this year, look for someone with whom you can share His redeeming grace. And let them know that within God’s plan of redemption through Christ, it IS good.

God’s peace,

Discussion Questions:
  1. Where do you see original sin around you?
  2. Where do you see the goodness of God around you?
  3. To whom has God called you to share His goodness?
