Don’t Take a Break
“After He had dismissed them, He went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.” Mt 14:23
The students have been dismissed and the teachers are gone. The only noise in the building is the gym floor being re-done and a few classrooms being moved. Now you can think about a few new things for next year or spend a little time on that accreditation stuff. Maybe you have a week or two scheduled to get away and recharge your batteries. Summer is certainly a time for enjoying some varied patterns from the school year.
One of the patterns you don't want to break is the spiritual routine so easily built into the school year like: daily devotions, praying with other Christians, weekly chapel and opening the Word daily for Religion class. But when summer hits, these good patterns can be set aside very easily.
Resist the break in the routine of spiritual habits. Try some new devotional resources, find a prayer partner you haven’t connected with for a while, serve your congregation in some ministry you don’t have time for in the school year, remain faithful to regular worship and Communion attendance. Or maybe there is a friend, neighbor or someone outside of your school community with whom you could share the Gospel.
After the Miracle of the Feeding of the Five Thousand, Christ dismissed the crowd and needed some time alone. He wasn’t just needing some Me Time. He went to pray to His Father. May you also seek time with God this summer to refocus your life and ministry on the One who has redeemed you and given you hope for salvation.
God’s peace,
Mike

- What new habit would you like to incorporate into your summer spiritual routines?
- Who is God Calling you to seek out this summer for faith conversations?
