Season of Epiphany
Epiphany is a Greek word which means "to show forth." Epiphany is the 12th day of Christmas-January 6th-and marks the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of Jesus' revelation as God's Son and the savior of the world. The season ends with Transfiguration (Sunday February 26), when Jesus is transformed into a Light Being on a mountain, just before His descent toward Jerusalem and death.

Epiphany is sometimes called Three Kings Day . The story of the Wise Men, In Matthew Ch. 2, reveals Jesus is King of all who call on Him as their savior from sin. The gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh also remind us Jesus came to be more than a sweet baby; He came as our king (gold), our priest (incense), and our savior (myrrh, used to embalm the dead) from death.

Cleaning Closets During Christmas Break?
Be Green and help our school earn some Green $$$ at the same time! Shepherd of the Hills PTL has partnered with Savers to do a donation drive during the month of January. This is taking the place of the Buck-A-Bag that we have previously done.
  • Savers will pay us $.20/lb for soft goods (clothing, bedding, shoes, towels, curtains, jewelry, etc...) and .5/lb for hard goods (books, CD, DVD's, toys (stuffed animals are considered hard goods), small appliances and other household goods).
  • We will be collecting gently used clothing and other household goods throughout the month of January.
  • Soft items need be placed in plastic trash bags-13gal kitchen bags work well.
  • Hard goods need to be brought in boxes.
  • Start collecting over Christmas Break!
You are welcome to drop items off at Shepherd of the Hills any time during the month of January or take it directly to Savers on January 28, between 2:00-4:00 pm. We will also be in need of volunteers on January 28 to help us load up bags and boxes to take over to Savers.  I will be sending home a bag with each student along with more information after Christmas Break.  Please be looking for this!  The students will be challenged to bring back at least one bag for the opportunity to earn some fun prizes. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help us offset the cost of the Teacher Appreciation Lunch that we do for teachers and staff later this spring. Please contact Adrienne Olsen if you have questions.
Youth Koinonia
Sunday, January 15, 5:30 pm
We hope this finds you starting your New Year off to a great start. We are excited to invite the 6th graders to join us in this awesome mentoring ministry. As a reminder to everyone, Koinonia is Greek for sharing, partnering and investing in the lives of others. This ministry pairs 2-3 trained high school mentors with the 6th-8th grade students each month for group-building and Bible study to help them in the relationship with their Savior Jesus. Koinonia meets the third Sunday of each month from 5:30-7:00 pm. Can't wait to see you! Contact Jodie or Molly with questions.
Do You Have Talent?
It's hard to believe but the Talent Show is just around the corner on February 16!  We are having talent show tryouts after school on Wednesday, January 25 and Thursday, January 26.  If you have a talent you would like to share, please consider trying out.  Sign up sheets will be outside Mrs. Shoaf's classroom.  Remember that acts should be about 2 minutes in length.

We will be having two shows on Thursday, February 16 at 2:00 and 6:30 pm.  Family and friends are welcome to join us for the shows.  Participation in The Talent Show is open to ELC through Eighth Grade.
