Principal's Pen
We all enjoyed another fine week of learning, building relationships and growing in Jesus. September promises to bring even more excitement as the students settle in and gain more confidence. The teachers will keep you up to speed with upcoming events and special activities. Please continue to encourage your children and teachers as we all deal with beginning year "growing pains". It can take weeks for routines, procedures and expectations to become comfortable .

We want to thank our special parents who have already volunteered and are always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. It has been awesome to see so many parents serving hot lunch, doing reading groups, and helping in classrooms.

We are working tirelessly at implementing our new school management system, Sycamore, and hope to have it accessible over the weekend. You will receive an invitation to create a login and password for your Sycamore account. We are still setting up emails so that may take a few more days. If you need to contact your child's teacher, all staff emails are first initial and last name @sothfamily.org such as LJennings@sothfamily.org.

Our grace period for dress code has passed in the K-8 grades. Please refer to the Parent Student handbook for specific details. Basically, your child may wear any color polo as long as it has an the embroidered logo. Bottoms have been expanded to include navy, khaki and now gray. Jeans are only allowed on Fridays and special "Break the Dress Code" days. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for your patience as we make both of these transitions this school year.

Please remember that the first monthly Coffee Chat with Mrs. Jennings will begin this month on September 13 at 8:15 am. We meet in the Great Hall at the long table. ELC and Day School parents are all welcome!

PTL
Calling all party planners. We are looking for a mom or dad from each class (K-8) to be their child's room parent. Responsibilities include organizing the 3 classroom parties that we have scheduled for this school year and doing something special for the teacher around their birthday and at Christmas. If this is something you would be willing to do please contact Adrienne Olsen for more information.

Just a reminder that our first PTL (Parent Teacher League) meeting is scheduled for this coming Monday, August 22, right after school until 5:00 pm. Childcare will be provided. We meet in the conference room in the office and would love to have you join us.

Did You Know?
We began accepting credit cards for payment on tuition and child care a couple of years ago. The average cost to Shepherd has been about $12,000 per year for processing credit card payments. Colorado is one of ten states that does not allow surcharges/processing fees on credit card purchases, so you are not directly paying those costs. However, the $12,000 has become a budget item that contributes to the total expense line of the schools. This item has been and will continue to be a contributor to the amount we have to charge for tuition. And so, we are asking that you consider the extra cost for Shepherd when you use a credit card. If possible, consider adding 3% to whatever your charge may be and that will help to offset the costs. We appreciate your help as we work to control expenses.

It's that time of year again!

Scrip Rebate Program
Fundraising has never been so easy! Make this the year that you start using Scrip gift cards to help raise money for our school! It's as simple as stopping by the school office to purchase gift cards for restaurants, groceries, department and clothing stores (including Land's End for uniforms), big box stores, Starbucks, sporting goods stores and much, much more. Come by the Scrip table at Back to School night to get started!
Kids ReNEW Sale
Our annual children's consignment sale is scheduled for Friday,September 30 and Saturday, October 1. The proceeds from this sale go to support the PTL. This is the PTL's biggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help! We are looking for people to sell their gently used baby toys, strollers, furniture, clothing (sizes newborn-Juniors), shoes, books, puzzles, bikes, outdoor equipment and any other items your children no longer have a need for. Sellers price and tag their own items and receive 70% of the sale price. The other 30% goes to the Parent Teacher League at Shepherd of the Hills Christian School. Don't have the time to price and tag your items? We will take your donations as well. Donations will be accepted through Monday, September 26. Bounce Inflatable Help Needed
In order to support Ministry, we are in need of volunteers to help set up and take down bounce house and inflatable obstacle course.  We will provide training once the volunteers are identified.  The inflatables are used during Fall Festival, end of school events and generally 5-6 times a year for various ministry events.  If interested, please call or email Dave Soderquist,720-934-1270 or dsoderquist@sothfamily.org.
Missed the School T-shirt Orders from July?
I'm organizing the second ordering of this year's school-themed shirts. You may notice that the prices are a little higher this time. The reason for this is because we are expecting to order a smaller number of shirts this time than when we placed the order in July. You will pay online when you place your order. The shirts will be delivered to the school and then be available for pick up at the office. Ordering closes SEPTEMBER 14. We will let you know the expected date of arrival once we place the order.

Be Transformed
While the school's theme for the school year is "Be Transformed", the church is also using this theme to take a look at the way we use our Time, Talents and Treasures. A thirteen week course is available and includes Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace. Classes will begin the week of September 11. Click HERE to see more details and to sign up.

Full Band Experience
Would you like your child to have a full band experience? Want conductors who are passionate about the band experience and teaching your kids? Consider Colorado Honor Band. My two kids had a positively wonderful experience from 5th grade through high school playing with the CHB. 8th Grade Parents 
If you are planning to open-enroll at a public high school, many schools are starting the process this fall. Call the school in which you are interested to see the exact procedure and/or talk to Jack Lipski our school counselor.   If your 8th grader is planning to attend Lutheran High, contact them at www.lhsparker.org.  I have LHS brochures in my office...feel free to stop by and pick up one! ~ Jack
