We live in an age where time is money, where it’s not always convenient to stroll through the aisles and assess our options or venture out in the evenings to brave the masses, hoping the last thing on our list isn’t sold out. We’re busy, and life doesn’t stop just because we need to get to the store.
But with the first day of school looming, the last weeks of August and first of September filling up with orientations and open houses, first practices and meetings, back to school shopping is still at the top of our ‘to-do’.
It's nice to fall back into some sort of routine, but all of this takes time – something every parent knows is never in abundant supply.
So, we need a plan; something that is quick and easy that will give us the ability to move on to the next current errand on our list. But sometimes, the hardest thing to figure out seems to be the simplest.
What exactly do we need to bring on the first day of school? What are the requirements? Do you have any suggestions? Who do we know has taken this class before? Where are we going to find all of these items?
According to National Retail Federation Project, two-out-of-five back-to-school shoppers will choose to check out online, equaling some $33.5 billion in online sales.
That’s right, the NRF reported the cost for pencils, erasers, clothes, and other supplies to total a whopping $700 on average, with nationwide sales for back-to-school and back-to-college amounting to almost $84 billion, making back-to-school shopping the second biggest consumer spending event for retailers aside from the winter holidays.
The ever-increasing use of smartphones, coupled with the continued development of easy-to-use technology and
faster, more affordable shipping means back-to-school shopping behaviors will also continue to evolve.
For now, the ease of one-click checkout, combined with the edge of ecommerce's reported ten-minute shopping time, versus the more than thirty minutes it took at the store (not including travel time) makes it that much easier to stock-up and check-out. |
