Jack Ferry was a bright and adventurous electronics engineer from Adelaide, and perhaps Australia's most respected designer of early home entertainment technology.
City of PAE Libraries are proud to present a special
collection of rare vintage radios, tape recorders and
other equipment designed and built right here in Adelaide by Jack Ferry. Discover the forgotten story of our home-grown audio industry, and see first-hand Ferry's contributions to the audio engineering field.

I am the Local History technician for City of PAE Libraries. My role is to manage the collection including the selection and preservation and conservation of historic items, digitising aspects of the collection to make it more freely available and researching and assisting the public with their local history queries.
What's the best thing about your job?
I feel privileged to manage this collection. Every day is different. People donate amazing treasures and I am constantly learning about the area. I help people find answers to their questions - what can you tell me about my house and area; I am looking for information about my great aunt ......; I unearth skeletons in people's closets. People are very grateful for the information
they receive which is very rewarding.
What's your favourite book?
I am a non-fiction book reader. My two biggest passions
are history and art so any book which provides
answers
or inspiration is a favourite. If I had to choose one book
it would be Masters of Deception: Escher, Dali and the
artists of optical illusion. Optical illusions challenge your
mind and make you look further and deeper, much like my job.
