ACT and College Board Testing & Accommodation Update

Dear HPHS Parents,

If your student currently receives services under 504 or special education you may request accommodations for ACT or a College Board test. (College Board includes PSAT, SAT, and AP exams).

Please note:
  1. The school's accommodation plan is not automatically in place for these tests. It must be requested.
  2. Accommodations in school do not guarantee accommodations from a testing company.

For ACT accommodation requests:
  • Register for the test at www.actstudent.org. (check the accommodation request deadline)
  • Select "Special Testing".
  • At least a week before the accommodation request deadline:
    • Forward your ACT registration confirmation email to [email protected].
    • Complete the ACT consent form and return to me by email or a hard copy.
    • July testing is not available at HPHS.
The decision takes up to a month. You will receive notification by email. Follow these steps each time you take the ACT.

For College Board (PSAT, SAT, AP exam) accommodation requests:
The decision letter will be mailed directly to your address listed in Skyward. Once approved you do not have to repeat this process.

More information is available on the ACT and College Board websites. If you have any questions about the HPHS process, please contact me.

Sincerely,
Katie Mottram

Baccalaureate Service

The student lead Baccalaureate service held last week was an emotional and special day for seniors and their families. The day began with the bagpiper, Erling Rolseth, greeting families at the entrance with traditional Scottish tunes.  The Senior Class Officers lead the service, the Lads and Lassies beautifully sang Amazing Grace and The Lord Bless you and Keep You, and the HPHS quartet provided the music.  All in attendance we in awe of the many talented students. The featured speaker, Ryan Parrott, gave an inspirational speech about finding your "spark" and working diligently and with patience to achieve your goals. Senior Class President, Frances Ann Matise, presented Mr. Parrott with a thank you gift of an American Flag flown over the capital on his birthday.

Thank you to the Baccalaureate chairs Susan Evans, Wendi Jones, Mary Lamar, and Fran Matise for the fabulous day. Their organization and attention to detail created a memorable day for all who were present.

Replay Sports - 11 Years of Passing It, Catching It, Sharing It ... Save the Date

The Park Cities community not only has a strong reputation in sports, but a very generous heart for sharing as well. With these two things in mind, Replay Sports will be hosting its 11th annual equipment collection! The event will be held on Saturday, August 18th at both Highlander Stadium and at Highland Park Middle School. The event is from 8:00a.m.-12:00p.m.

So it's time to clean out your closets, attics, and garages! Replay Sports collects used and new equipment, then donates it to young athletes in the Dallas community that may not have access to much needed sports gear for various reasons. Since launching in 2007, Replay Sports has collected hundreds of football helmets, shoulder pads, baseball cleats, golf clubs, and many other sporting supplies. The event has been so successful that they stuffed U-Haul trucks to capacity with sports gear and the spirit of sharing. Some of the beneficiaries this year will include: Viking Sports, Bridge Lacrosse, First Tee, and Voice of Hope.
This year's Replay Sports officers are Rhodes Crow, Charlie Wilson, James Wilson, Ben Holsomback, Worthey Wiles, Cannon Thornhill, Ben Smith, Jack Sitzer, and Gabe Galbraith. The young men of Replay Sports hope that young athletes in need can put all of the equipment donated to good use. Perhaps being able to participate in a sports program will help these athletes succeed in other aspects of their lives. So dust off those outgrown and gently used sports items and join us Saturday, August 18th at Highlander Stadium or Highland Park Middle School 8-12!

Save the Date! Highland Belles to Host 35th Annual Spaghetti Supper & Auction - Aug. 31st

The award-winning Highland Belles Drill Team kicks off the first home game of the 2018 Highland Park High School football season with its annual Spaghetti Supper and auction/raffle fundraiser on Friday, August 31, 2018. A fun-filled family night is planned to rally Scots spirit before the Highland Park vs. Rockwall game. This year's theme, "You've Got a Fringe in Me," builds on the team's 35-year tradition of the Spaghetti Supper, which is the Belles only fundraiser, and hosts hundreds of Highland Park ISD families for dinner and prizes. Proceeds from the event fund many of the drill team's essentials including bus transportation, props, sound systems, choreography and competition expenses. The Highland Belles would like to thank the numerous local businesses and friends who have provided support through underwriting, over 500 fantastic auction donations, and many enticing raffle basket items.

For the 23rd year, the Belles are pleased and grateful to partner with Amore Italian Restaurant. Tickets will go on sale June 15th and will continue through August 20th, so contact your favorite Belle to make a purchase or donation. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Dinner tickets are $10.00 each and raffle chances are $5.00 each or 6 for $25.00.  You may also email the Spaghetti Supper at [email protected] to make your purchase or donation.

The Highland Belles Booster Club will serve spaghetti dinners from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the HPHS Cafetorium. This year's take-out location will be in the front of the school on Emerson where orders will be delivered to patrons' cars between 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Highland Belles L to R: Daryn Rowlett, Riley Cheek, Kristen Wander, Ted Leverson-Amore Manager, Lauren Stevenson, Jamie Wander, and Mary Kate Addison.
