Happy Independence Day from the Atlanta Area Council!

There are still plenty of opportunities to spend time outside with your Scouts this summer. Whether you're headed to a Gwinnett Stripers or Atlanta Braves game, attending Summer Camp or just cooking out and watching the fireworks we wish you all a safe and happy summer.
The New Be A Scout is Online! Is your Pin up to date?
The Boy Scouts of America have made it easier than ever for new families to find Packs, Troops and Crews in their area with a redesign of BeAScout.org .

To make sure that every youth has the chance to be a Scout, we want to ensure that all of the unit pins on Be A Scout are correct before school starts this August.

Cubmasters, Scoutmasters and Committee Chairs should take a few moments in the next week to update their pin on Be A Scout . Include your unit's meeting times, leader contact information and for Packs and whether you will be participating in Family Scouting this fall.
Merit Badge University is a quality Merit Badge program that helps Scouts learn about different fields of knowledge. By recruiting experienced professional counselors, Scouts receive an unparalleled experience. It’s hosted on the beautiful Kennesaw State University Marietta campus, giving Scouts a great opportunity to experience a college atmosphere.

The $15 registration fee includes breakfast as well as program materials for most classes with only a few exceptions. Classes will include Emergency Preparedness, Citizenship in the Nation, Communication and much more! Classes will be available for registration August 1.
Every Scout deserves a well-trained leader. Are you that leader? Get Wood Badge trained and you will be. In doing so, you will change not only your life but also the lives of all that you touch. In 2018, the Atlanta Area Council BSA will offer four courses: three of them with two three-day weekends, and one week long course in November. Participants are required to attend all days a specific course is being held.

Take Youth Protection Training 2 Online or at the Volunteer Service Center
Imagine a world where more people are committed to keeping kids safe. The BSA is serious about fighting child abuse, and you are an important part of that fight.

The BSA has announced bold, wide-ranging updates to its Youth Protection program as part of an ongoing effort to protect young people from child abuse.

This starts with an enhanced online Youth Protection training course all volunteers and professionals must complete.

The online course is available to all leaders now and in-person sessions will be offered on Saturdays in June at the Volunteer Service Center.

Scout leaders who took the previous version of Youth Protection training have been asked to log into My.Scouting.org and complete the updated Youth Protection course by Oct. 1, 2018.
