The Georgia-Carolina Council on Jan. 1 welcomed Wesley Brown as the new district executive for its Creek River District, which serves Richmond, Burke, Emanuel, Jefferson and Jenkins counties.

Wesley, a native of Atlanta, earned Eagle Scout honors in October 2002 at the age of 16 while a member of Troop 1776 in Marietta, Ga. During his time with the troop, which serves more than 100 scouts, he served as senior patrol leader, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and had the privilege of attending all three High-Adventure trips (Northern Tier, Philmont and Florida Sea Base). The son of an Eagle Scout, Wesley was awarded a bronze palm before leaving the troop.

Wesley comes to Georgia-Carolina Council after seven years as an award-winning journalist. He reported on a wide range of topics, from crime and courts, to local and federal government, as a member of one weekly and three daily newspapers in North Carolina and Georgia, including The Augusta Chronicle. During his time as a reporter, he won nine awards, including first place in 2015 for hard news writing in the Georgia Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest.

With a Bachelor's degree in mass communications from Georgia College & State University and a passion for the Scouts and helping young people, Wesley joins the council in hopes of a cquiring new skills in fundraising, volunteer recruitment and nonprofit programming.
He married the love of his life, Jessica, an Augusta native, in April 2012 and the couple is expecting their first child in March. He lives in Augusta and during his spare time enjoys billiards, canoeing, 
camping, watching Auburn University football and spending time with his two dogs, Brandy and Lina.

Dear Scouts and Scouters:

At the 2017 National Jamboree, you can experience all the thrills of extreme outdoor sports, tons of interactive exhibits, a day of local community service across West Virginia, awesome arena shows, and fireworks, and of course wi-fi throughout.

As the Georgia-Carolina Council beings to plan for the 2017 National Jamboree more than 2 years before the big event, we want you to plan to go with us to join 35,000+ other Scouts and Leaders for 10 days of adventure.

The dates of the Jamboree are July 19-28, 2017 and the fee (including travel to/from WV, pre-Jambore e tour, shakedown camping trip, the jamboree fe e, 10 days of meals, and Troop/Patrol gear such as tens, cots, etc.) is estimated to be $1500- $1650. While many of the  final costs are still unknown and unknowabl e at this early date it's not t oo early to begin planning. (We will keep everyone updated on fee estimates as we learn more)

Scouting Youth (Boy Scouts and male/female Venturers) are encouraged to apply, subject to a minimum age requirement. A number of Adult unit leader positions are open too.

Youth and Adults can find additional details and need to register online CLICK HERE. Also contact the Georgia-Carolina Council Office to put your name on the list and make your $100 deposit; also begin making monthly regular payments. Look for information soon on a local payment plan and dates.
