Come Join a Gathering of Eagles

The Georgia Carolina Council National Eagle Scout Committee (NESA) is sponsoring a Gathering of Eagles at Robert E. Knox Scout Reservation on Friday June 19. Starting at 5:00 you will be able to visit a camp site and meet with the scouts and talk with them about scouting and your experience as an Eagle. Dinner will be served at 6:30 in the dining area (the Sewell Center, building by the sports field) where you will have an opportunity to learn about the newly formed Georgia-Carolina Council NESA committee, its proposed plans and programs. Following that, at 8:00 we will join the weekly camp fire.

This event is open to Eagles of all ages. You do not have to be a member of NESA or the Georgia-Carolina Council NESA Committee to attend. If you know any Eagles who are not registered scouts or scouters or who do not receive the 411, please invite them to attend. There is no fee to attend, but donations are welcomed to offset the cost of the meal.

Please RSVP by June 17 to Regina Jeffries at 706-733-5277

Dear Scouts and Scouters:

At the 2017 National Jamboree, you can experience all the thrills of extreme outdoor sports, tons of interactive exhibits, a day of local community service across West Virginia, awesome arena shows and fireworks, and of course wi-fi throughout.

As the Georgia-Carolina Council begins to plan for the 2017 National Jamboree more than 2 years before the big event, we want you to plan to go with us to join 35,000+ other Scouts and Leaders for 10 days of adventure.

The dates of the jamboree are July 19-28, 2017 and the fee (including travel to/from WV, pre-Jamboree tour, shakedown camping trip, the jamboree fee, 10 days of meals, and Troop/Patrol gear such as tents, cots, etc.) is estimated to be $1500-1650. While many of the final costs are still unknown and unknowable at this early date it's not too early to begin planning.  (We will keep everyone updated on fee estimates as we learn more)

Scouting Youth (Boy Scouts and make/female Venturers) are encouraged to apply, subject to minimum age requirements.  A number of Adult unit leader positions are open, too.

Youth and Adults can find additional details and need to register online at BSAJAMBOREE.ORGAND also contact the Georgia-Carolina Council Office to put your name on the list to make your $100 deposit and begin making regular payments.  Look for information soon on a local payment plan and dates.

Please contact the Council Office at 706-733-5277 for additional information and details.

Council Personnel Changes:

The Georgia-Carolina Council is saying thank you and good luck as two employees move to other ventures in their lives and Scouting.

The council would like to take this time to say thank you, Cathy Axel and Joseph Chandler, for your service to Scouting and all that you have done to improve the lives of the youth and adults you impacted.

Cathy Axel has served the council as the Registrar for the past 18 months while serving as a commissioner for the Kiokee River District and as the Kiokee River Popcorn Kernel as well. While leaving the employee ranks of Scouting Cathy will remain active in her volunteer role.

Joseph will leave as District Executive of the Yamasee District to pursue the ministry, having been recently appointed to serve the United Methodist Church he will begin on July 1st in his new role of serving churches without permanent pastors.

We would like to thank Joseph and Cathy for their work and dedication to Scouting and hope you will join us in extending our best wishes to them and gratitude for their service to Scouting.
