As we began 2015, many leaders were anxious to see their Unit's final 2014 Journey To Excellence scores. Thank you to all Unit Leaders, District-level volunteers, and Commissioners for their outstanding work in 2014. Special "Congratulations" to all those Packs, Troops, and Crews that achieved a gold, silver, or bronze ranking. In addition, we can all be proud of Kiokee River District for achieving Silver JTE status. The Georgia-Carolina Council earned the Bronze level, as well.
I hope all of you can join us on Tuesday, March 17 for the annual Council Recognition Banquet. It's a great evening of Scouting as we recognize and thank those who have provided leadership and service including the 2015 class of Silver Beaver honorees, and the 2014 class of Eagle Scouts. I hope you will take a few minutes to nominate a deserving Scouter for Silver Beaver.
Additionally, we are very appreciative of a recent gift of a Sea-Doo personal watercraft from a long time Scouting supporter. This will allow us to continue to expand and to enhance our Aquatics programs at Knox Scout Reservation for many years.
In Scouting,
Reed Miller
Council President

This survey is to gather interest in the Venturing Program in the Georgia-Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 13 and have completed the eighth grade, or age 14 through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of exciting and meaningful activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens. Venturing crews can specialize in a variety of avocation or hobby interests.

2017 National Jamboree
I know how hard it is for any of us to plan that far ahead but it is time! If you are interested in going to Jamboree as a Council Unit Leader please start planning. We will have a Council Leader selection process in place by early spring and be accepting applications soon after. If you want to be on staff at the Jamboree it is not too early to start following the Summit site and information to understand the planned program elements for the next Jamboree. Finally, if you want to get your Scout on the list to go the Council is accepting a $100 payment now. We do not have a final cost yet but a good assumption would be about $1250-1300, plus spending money. That gives us all a good long time to save our money. I overheard someone talking that he was just putting his pocket change in a jar everyday for the next two years and should have enough to cover most of his costs by Jamboree time. Get your Scout to save too!
