ATLANTA SCOUTING
Your Guide to the Best Activities, Events, & Training for Your Scouts
We all know Scouts can go on to do amazing things. Former Scouts walk the halls of Congress, and have walked on the moon. Scouts can be found in professional athletics, in the arts, and at the top of corporations.

One Scout from Atlanta stands above the rest in making a positive impact on our country.

Martin Luther King, Jr., the American Civil Rights hero who we celebrate every January was a Boy Scout in the Atlanta Area Council. From the age of 11 to age 13, Dr. King was a registered Scout as part of Troop 151 chartered to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.

This is a fact that should make Scouts everywhere remarkably proud.

The Atlanta Area Council still has the handwritten Troop Charter Renewal forms that include the names of Dr. King, as well as his father who served as the Troop's Chartered Organization Representative.

The troop met at Ebenezer Baptist Church, now part of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. Both King men served as pastors there.

Scouting is still alive and thriving at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Pack and Troop 213 continue to meet there every other Sunday.

The Atlanta Area Council is proud to celebrate Black History Month and honor the contributions of African American Scouts to our community.

PHOTO OF THE MONTH

Scouts from Troop 241 in Canton, GA paddle through the Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge. They encountered alligators and other wildlife as they traveled through Stephen C. Foster State Park, Floyd's Island, and Mixson Hammock.

We Want Your Pictures
