Your Guide to the Best Activities, Events & Training for Your Scouts
Check out our new view from the Volunteer Service Center! The Atlanta Braves will be opening their Spring 2017 season in an all new environment, directly across the street from the Volunteer Service Center. Cobb County will become home to the Atlanta Braves soon, and the Atlanta Area Council is excited about our new neighbor!

SunTrust Park and the surrounding amenities will not only offer an incredible gameday experience and year-round activities for our Scouts, but will also increase visibility for Scouting in Atlanta. We are continuing to work on a plan to maximize opportunities for this new development to grow membership, programming and funding for Scouting in Atlanta and to ensure that we are prepared for any challenges.

With the strong partnership between the Atlanta Area Council and the Atlanta Braves, new opportunities for Scouts and the Council are sure to continue to grow. Go Braves!

Atlanta Scouts celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 2016 MLK March on Peachtree Street. Scouts and Leaders from Troops 1890 and 2110 were joined by Scout Executive/CEO Tracy Techau, Scoutreach Executive Ramon Montgomery and Program Specialists Darryl Harris and Karla Juarez.

Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Nominations
March 1, 2016
Whitney M. Young nominations are due! The purpose of the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award is to recognize outstanding services by an adult individual or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for youth from rural or low-income backgrounds. Please send the nomination form to Katherine Bass by March 1, 2016. Click here to view a list of the past honorees. The awards will be presented at the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Awards Banquet in September. Thank you for your help with recognizing our unsung heroes!

Campout 100
March 11-13, 2016
Who is the BEST Patrol in the Atlanta Area Council? A central component of Campout 100 is "The OA Great Race" which will allow for patrols to compete for the honor of being recognized as the best Patrol in the Council.  The race will take place over a three-hour period during which time Patrols will try to compete in as many events as they choose in order to achieve the best overall score. Scouting For Food
April 2016
Scouting For Food is an incredible opportunity for Scouts to support local food pantries, while learning lifelong lessons about Community Service and Good Citizenship. Later this month we will release a Scouting for Food Unit and District Planning Kit so you can join in on the Council's Centennial Celebration April Month of Service! The kit will contain everything you need to make Scouting for Food a meaningful service project for your Scouts. Cub Scout Spring Fling
April 8-10, 2016
Spring Fling is a wild weekend of fishing, shooting sports, hiking, games and much more for Cub Scouts and their families! Come for the weekend or just for the day on Saturday. Other activities include a night hike, sports, crafts, roasting marshmallows and visiting with special guests.  Click here for more information.

Silver Beaver Ceremony

Come out and join the celebration as the Atlanta Area Council proudly recognizes the latest class of Silver Beavers! The Silver Beaver is the highest honor a council can bestow upon a volunteer. The award given to those who have been nominated by a volunteer's peers and vote by a panel. Heritage Hike
April 23, 2016
Ever wondered what makes up our Atlanta heritage? Come hike your way through history at some of the most iconic places like Dr. Martin Luther King's birthplace, Ebenezer Baptist Church where Civil Rights History thrives and many others. Exploring Engineering Academy
June 5-10, 2016
Have you ever wondered what makes a roller coaster stay on the tracks in the middle of an inverted loop? Or how electricity instantly turns on your lights even though the power plant is miles away? The Exploring Engineering Academy provides 9th-12th graders an opportunity to answer those questions with an in-depth look at careers within the engineering and STEM fields. Academy students are provided lodging in one of Georgia Tech's dormitories. During the week they get a feel for what life on campus is like and they get behind the scenes to more than 30 Atlanta-area companies. Click here for more information.

National Jamboree
July 19-28, 2017
Don't miss out on the biggest gathering Scouting has to offer, the 2017 National Jamboree. Experience hundreds of adventures over ten days, for a once in a lifetime experience. The Atlanta Area Council will send a council contingent consisting of 6 Troops (216 Boy Scouts/24 Leaders) and 2 Venturing Crews (16 Venturers/4 Advisors) to the Jamboree. Registration is now open for Youth and Adult Participants at www.BSAJamboree.org.

Scout Sunday
Join in on celebrating the Atlanta Area Council's 100th Anniversary by having a Scout Sunday or Scout Sabbath at your place of worship in 2016! Scout Sunday is a day to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting within your chartered organization and can take place anytime throughout the year. Contact your chartered organization to get on the agenda for Scout Sunday's service. Your unit can lead the congregation in prayer, present the colors or read scripture. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
100 for 100
The Atlanta Area Council turns 100 in 2016, and to celebrate we are collecting and posting 100 stories for our 100 years of Scouting in the Atlanta Area. Whether it's a tale of the best campout ever, the big catch that got away or the best friend you met at Summer Camp, we want to hear about your Scouting experience. Scouts are also able to use their submissions for this project to earn requirements for the Movie Making, Journalism and/or Photography Merit Badges. Click here to submit and learn more!

Campout 100
Volunteers and Troops are needed to help run exciting activities such as Branding, The Chariot Race, Stretcher Carry Relay, the Sack Race and Rope Making at Campout 100, March 11-13, 2016. Contact Ted Crouse if you are interested in volunteering.

Summer Camp Staff
There is no better way to spend your summer than on camp staff! We are looking for dedicated and spirited older Scouts or adults to become a part of the Bert Adams and Woodruff Summer Camp Staffs. TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
The Fundamentals of Training
February 10, 2016
The Fundamentals of Training is designed to help Scouters, regardless of their experience, present effective training. The course will help those who might have trained for other organizations learn the BSA's training techniques, and will aid in development programs from unit-level youth leader training taught by youth for youth, to position-specific and supplemental training for adult leaders. Trainer's Edge
February 20, 2016
The Trainer's Edge is part of the Train-The-Trainer Continuum. This is the second part of the three-part Train-The-Trainer Continuum. This course focuses on the participant, while raising the level of skill a trainer brings to the staff experience. This course is intended to "train the trainer" on behaviors and resources while offering hands -on experience in methods and media. Powder Horn Training
April 15-17, 2016 & April 29-May 1, 2016
Powder Horn is a hands-on resource management course designed to give you the contacts and tools necessary to conduct an awesome high-adventure program for your Troop, Team, Crew or Ship. The course is conducted over two weekends at Woodruff Scout Camp.  Click here for more information.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a week-long course at Bert Adams Scout Camp for Boy Scouts or Venturing Scouts which features instruction in skills that can be used at home, at school, on the job and at the Scout unit level. Through activities, events, games, and adventures, NYLT participants will work hard and play hard together as they put into action the best Scouting has to offer.  We have added nine amazing courses, spread out over 5 weeks throughout the year. Space is limited and fills up quickly. Wood Badge
2016 Courses Available Now
Wood Badge is the premier leadership training course for Scout Leaders and is available to registered Leaders of all levels of the Scouting program. It concentrates on providing training on modern leadership skills needed in today's world for Scout leaders. Wood Badge Training will not only make you a better Scout Leader, it will also assist you in improving your personal and professional life as well. Gain valuable tools in listening, communicating, conflict management, project planning and leading change. You will learn to lead with a vision, to better understand and leverage diversity and the generational differences and many more skills that will make you a better leader to the youth you serve.
