Training Just For Unit Committee Members

Unit Committee Chairs and Committee members: ever wonder why your Scoutmaster/Advisor/Coach are wearing the "Trained" patch but you aren't? The short answer is... because you have not completed the training requirements for your position!

If you come to University of Scouting on January 21, there's a new program especially for Unit Committee members that will result in you earning the Trained patch. You'll also have an opportunity to learn all sorts of things relevant to your particular "job" in Scouting. We have classes ranging from Unit Finance and how to conduct Boards of Review to engaging new parents, recruiting new volunteers, and how to deal with "problem adults."

Year-Round Source For Service Ideas

Many Scouts found worthwhile service opportunities during our November Good Turn on JustServe.org: a website devoted to helping volunteers find meaningful ways to serve. At any given time, the site has more than 100 service project ideas (within Austin metro alone).

Scouts may continue to use JustServe.org to find:
  • Service hours for Citizenship in the Community and other merit badges
  • Opportunities to accomplish needed service hours for rank advancement (Star and Life)
  • Potential Eagle Scout projects
  • Meaningful service activities for their unit

If you have any questions about JustServe.org or would like to suggest a service opportunity for posting, please contact Colette McCullough at [email protected].
