  MCS Christmas Festival

Please HELP us make this year's Christmas Festival a success!  If you could volunteer 2 hours out of your day we would greatly appreciate it....  We need all hands on deck to make this a HUGE success!

Message from the Principal

Many of our families have been so supportive of our Greenhouse/Outdoor Classroom projects as demonstrated through the generous donations of time, talent and resources necessary to move it to completion.   We look forward to the projects enhancing the educational experience for all MCS students through a hands-on learning environment. Most importantly, students will learn how to be sustainable stewards of the land, be exposed to gardening techniques, and work independently and within group settings all while exploring their relationship to and impact on the earth in accordance with the Bible’s teachings. “Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it”. Genesis 2:15 NASB

The Greenhouse and Outdoor Classroom will serve to enhance the existing rigorous curriculum that MCS offers its students. Multiple subjects will be explored; Science, Math, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Technology, and Art will be integrated into the garden curriculum through a hands-on, practical approach. Our plan is to harvest and utilize the organically grown produce from the school garden as a means of supporting the local food bank at St Peter’s by the Sea in Narragansett.  In this way, we hope to demonstrate to our students, by example, that MCS models land awareness and sustainable land stewardship. God has given MCS a great gift in its property and we are responsible to be good stewards of the land.  Our proposed timeline is:

Phase One

Build greenhouse, outdoor garden beds, and outdoor classroom pavilion during the second and third trimesters of the 2016-17 school year.

Phase Two

During the third trimester of 2016-17, working with MCS master gardeners (Mrs. McCabe & Mrs. Czajkowski) as well as master gardeners from St Peter’s, create a composting area and prep the ground for the planting and cultivation of peas, beans, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, kohlrabi, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, cucumbers, and blueberries.

God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving,

Dr. F

  Important message from
Olivia Barber,
8th grade:

I recently learned that teens often get overlooked in traditional toy drives, and decided to start a Teen Gift Drive for my 8th grade service project. (Because teens are moody enough without getting gypped at Christmas). I have  partnered with The Jonnycake Center and The Narragansett Housing Authority, and have made an Amazon wish list and items can be purchased from the list and drop shipped right to me at school.  Or if you would rather purchase a gift locally that would be great too. Items can be sent into the office with my name on them. Just click on the link below to see the list. Or go to Amazon.com and search for Teens for teens RI wishlist

Please consider buying a gift for a needy teen This Holiday season.

Thank you, and Happy Holidays !
