  MCS COMMUNITY FOOD DRIVE

During these tough economic times and with the upcoming holidays, food pantries will face an increased need for donations.  MCS will be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive this year.  This year we are teaming up with the Rhode Island Center Assisting those in Need (RICAN).  RICAN is a non-profit organization with a mission to serve with dignity, respect and without discrimination, all those in need in the Washington County-Southern Rhode Island area.

Our drive will take place the Week of October 31-November 14th.  Each grade will be asked to bring in one specific item  We also ask that each student donate $1.00 toward a purchase of turkeys.  RICAN will make up baskets of complete Thanksgiving dinners as well as provide a frozen turkey with each basket to families in need.

Please contact Kerri Grundy if you have any questions.  As always, we thank you for your continued support!!

  Prout Informational Session

The Prout School is conducting a feasibility study to determine whether they might successfully pursue a capital campaign to raise funding for a new athletic complex. Improvements would include an upgrade to a turf field; the addition of lighting, a 500-person seating system, press box, and concession stands; the relocation of the softball field; and the addition of a soccer/lacrosse practice field. The funds for the renovations would come 100% from philanthropy; there would be no increase in tuition should the school decide to move forward with these plans. As part of the feasibility study, Prout would like the opportunity to hear from the parents of 7th and 8th graders. As such, we invite you to attend a “listening session” on Wednesday, November 9 from 6pm to 6:45pm in the  library  at Monsignor Clarke School, just prior to  the PTO meeting. Refreshments will be served.

Important Announcements

10 Reasons to join the PTO

1.Budgets at every school are tight. Money raised in school fundraisers is often used to pay for those little extras that can make a school a bit special.

2.Knowing that they can (within reason) predict a certain level of fundraised extra income each year will allow your school to plan an effective and realistic budget.

3.Helping at PTO fundraising events helps you get to know your kid's teachers better and understand the way the school works.

4.Being part of the PTO helps you get to know other parents and their children. This is important for school matters but also great for a more active social life!

5.By joining the PTO you have the chance to promote and enhance your school's standing within your local community.

6.Although occasionally embarrassed, most children do actually like to know that you are there for them, taking an interest and sharing their experience.

7.Talking to other parents helps you and them. Sharing experiences and parenting tips helps us all.

8.The commitment is not too much. The occasional evening meeting and at least one school fundraiser.

9. Everyone has different talents and skills they can bring to the school and parents are a great interface between the school and the 'outside world'.

10. It's actually quite fun to be a part of events and being there to watch the kids enjoy themselves at the school. Isn't this what it's all about? The whole MCS experience is for you and your kids!

So isn’t it time you got involved?

Join us for tonight's meeting at 7pm

Family Volunteer Day!
November 19th

It Doesn't Take A lot of Time to Make A Big Difference!

We were awarded a $1,000 grant for a greenhouse and outdoor classroom. The structure will be built in the playground area in the alcove over by the prayer garden.  All grades will benefit from this alternative learning center! Students will learn through Science how to grow vegetables and what we grow will be used for meal preparation and deliveries to area organizations such as WARM Center and Welcome House.

HERE IS WHERE YOU COME IN.....

We need to meet the qualifications of the grant by having volunteers help build this project on November 19th.

We are also looking for a Master Gardener.  This doesn't need to be a parent, anyone in our community that you know of to help and mentor would be great!

Advancement Update
Sara Marshall, Dr. John Finnegan and Brad Asher of Gates Insurance (Also former student in first class at MCS)

Last Friday, MCS welcomed over 50 members of our local business community as we hosted a coffee hour for the Southern RI Chamber of Commerce.  It was an amazing turnout and a great opportunity to showcase our school. Many of our guests were unfamiliar with MCS, and were offered tours by our student ambassador team.  Guests learned first hand from our students, what makes our school such a special place.  We look forward to continuing to build strong community partnerships.
