“What is Gemstone Art?”
Zee Haag’s art has been purchased by Clint Eastwood, Lawrence Fishburn, Steven Seagall, and Steve Wynn, and more.
James Michael West created Gemstone Art llc in Knoxville, TN in 2013 to publicize and distribute the artistic creations of Zee, Salvador Duran and other notable artists.
We have an exclusive arrangement with Zee to represent his art in the eastern United States. In Knoxville the only place to view any of the art at present is in Uncorked at #20 Historic Market Square, in the Jewelry Television headquarters, or by private appointment. Pictures do not convey the beauty and intricacy of the art which must be seen in person. Mike is happy to have the opportunity to allow you to view these incredible works of art and hopes that you are as inspired with them as we are.
“How is Gemstone Art Made?”
Well, after millions of years of heat and pressure, Zee Haag steps in.
Gemstone Art is a type of mixed-media art produced by Zee, who utilizes a proprietary process for inlaying gemstones, fossils, mineral crystals, metals and other materials, that the artist places inside an encapsulating metal frame. Each stone is carefully laid in by hand to achieve the pattern combinations that produce the envisioned design. This material is then joined together with hi-strength chemical resins resulting in a hard aggregate.
Next, grinding and polishing takes place over many days using diamond grinding equipment. This finishing process of the piece to a high polish allows the working of the different sections in order to create visual effects of depth, color, light-play and intricate pattern. These methods require hours of labor just to inlay a small area of the art piece. The artist also uses various metalworking methods to create the surface patina of the metallic sections. The unique combination of crystalline minerals, fossils, metals, and resins then cures into a composite material surface that can never be duplicated. The sophisticated methods of metal and stonework that are utilized were developed over three decades of laborious trial & error research and are crucial elements in the creation of these one-of-a-kind art pieces which are unique in the world of art.
