Dear Action Therapy Lovers!

Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Seasonal Newsletter for the New England Chapter of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama.

The chapter will continue sending out this newsletter seasonally. The next one will go out early June.  Each will include information about upcoming offerings relative to both psychodrama and drama therapy, a Service Spotlight section highlighting the work of a New England practitioner using psychodrama in their work, a Vintage Moreno video clip, as well as articles and announcements relevant to the field. Please feel free to contribute your offerings and/or announcements. The more juicy action therapy stuff going on, the better!  Also, you're invited to join the Psychodrama Boston Tribe Facebook Group for community sharing including offerings.

Emerging Stronger in a Time of Great Change, Sociatry Education and Training:  The Skill of Attunement
There is a visible and a hidden dynamic taking place, underlying and impacting our society, organizations, groups, and our lives. Sociatry education and training is a microscope to this dynamic: The inner workings become visible, understood, and repaired within any group. This teaches tools and skills of attunement, the capacity to see and experience life in a deeper, richer, expanded and inclusive way. Sociatry education and training leads to a unity between us and with all life. Sociatry (so-sigh-ah-tree) means the healing of society, organizations, groups, and individuals. It is taught with a sequence of ideas, experiences, and skills, in which the invisible dynamic and our unity to one another become palpable, recognizable, and accessible. It strengthens communication, builds cohesion, and develops sensitivity to the realties of power and social justice, organizational functioning, and what ties us together. A larger sense of oneself is realized, and powerful benefits for personal and organizational health, productivity and innovation. The Founders of Psychodrama and Social Network Theory J.L. Moreno and Zerka Moreno developed sociatry as transformational education and training, their unique wisdom tradition. The program is flexible in delivery and is made specific to goals of those participating. Sociatry is offered through the not-for-profit Growing a New Heart.

THE LIVES THEY LIVED: ZERKA MORENO

She had little doubt that acting out experiences and feelings could save people -
and help with child-raising.

When Zerka Moreno gave birth to her son, Jonathan, in 1952, she saw his arrival as a "golden opportunity." How much more fun and creative might his life be, she wondered, if he were raised using therapeutic techniques like role-playing or talking to an empty chair? Each was pioneered by J.L. Moreno, Zerka's husband and the founder of psychodrama, a form of therapy in which people act out their experiences and feelings in an effort to gain insight or achieve catharsis.  Read entire article from the New York Times here.
