Spirit of Stony Brook Invited to Perform at UConn
UConn
On Saturday, September 6th, the band traveled to East Hartford, Connecticut to not only support the football team, but to perform its own halftime show in the 40,000 seat Rentschler Field stadium. UConn's marching band was such a generous host, offering our band water and ice cream during the game and candy for the ride home. Throughout the game, both bands took turns playing in the stands and also communicated by waving their instruments in the air as well as doing the wave with their arms.
Band Geek: Student Staff "Fancy" Parody
Fancy Roll Call
Over the summer the Athletic Bands annual student staff and summer staff wrote a parody song of Iggy Azalea's hit "Fancy." The song, Band Geek, describes what it's like to be a band member in The Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band. The students filmed a music video to go along with the song and presented it to the whole band during Roll Call on the last day of Band Camp. The annual student staff members who were involved were Sal Ferrguia, Jaclyn Lattanza, Emma Lowery and Richie Moylan and the summer staff members who were involved were Courtney Ladowski, Christian Sugiarto, Chris Valentino and Gilbert Worotikan.

Band Camp From Friday, August 15th to Sunday, August 24th, the Spirit of Stony Brook hosted its annual Band Camp for all band members. During Band Camp the drum majors and leadership team helped professional staff members prepare all new and returning band members for the football season. This included learning marching fundamentals, new music and drill for pregame and the first halftime show. This season the band will play three different halftime shows for the first time ever. Throughout Band Camp, the drum majors, leadership, drumline, woodwinds, brass, color guard and Mrs. Stahl each had a day to take over the band's social media pages with #takeover.
