Spirit of Stony Brook Color Guard Performs at
Sing for CommUNITY
The Stony Brook Color Guard has been working hard all semester to create new and different performance pieces for our fans to enjoy. On February 16th, the color guard participated in the Sing for CommUNITY event, hosted by the National Society for Collegiate Scholars. This was a great opportunity for the color guard, as it allowed us to showcase our talents to a crowd that might not ordinarily see us at other campus events. Upcoming Performance: Second Annual Color Guard and Drumline Showcase, to be held along with Earthstock on April 29th. |

The Spirit Goes On
Within a few short years, the Spirit of Stony Brook has established itself as a force on campus. While it is most known for the energy it brings to the school, the organization continues to foster leaders through the promotion of student involvement and personal development.
Although everyone must move on to another chapter of their lives, the Spirit will always be with them. My time spent with the Band has taught me lessons of perseverance, dedication, integrity, friendship, and family. But most importantly, it has taught me that in order to succeed in life, you must not be afraid to fail.

What first appeared as misfortune became, in the end, one of my biggest blessings. I was originally supposed to go to Stony Brook Southampton, and was initially disappointed to learn that residential operations would be closing. After tossing around the idea of putting in last minute applications elsewhere, I decided Stony Brook would be my best bet. A friend of mine from high school, Beth Derderian, came to me and suggested I joined the marching band. My high school didn't have a marching band, and I wasn't too musically involved, but when it came time for band camp, I realized just how much I was missing out on. Click the picture for full article

Mr. John Leddy is the antithesis of Professor Harold Hill in The Music Man. While Professor Hill was out to scam River City that he could deliver a marching band, John Leddy along with his assistant Shayna Stahl has delivered a marching band to SBU. Starting with a handful of students five short years ago they have delivered a marching, singing, dancing band to SBU, only the fourth to exist amongst all of New York State's Colleges and Universities. Consisting of over 160 students from a wide variety of majors, this band is a sight to behold when the Drum Majors step off in unison.
