Young Adult & Middle Reader Advisory Boards
SUNDAY, JANUARY 8th at 3:00pm
We love to hear what young readers think about books that are coming soon! Their feedback helps us decide which books to carry, and helps us tell other readers about exciting new releases.  YA kids help plan events and authors that visit the store. Our middle reader advisory board is especially appropriate for ages 8-12 and our young adult advisory board is geared toward ages 12 and up.  We meet for 45 minutes to an hour, pick out yet to be published books to take home to read, and discuss the books we’ve read since the last meeting.  Let us know if you are interested in your child participating, or have any more questions!

Jackaby
by William Ritter
Jackaby is slow to draw you in but once the plot gets going, it's exciting and strange. Jackaby is a detective who meets a young women named Abigail. Soon, Abigail becomes his apprentice and discovers a world full of ghosts, werewolfs and other mysterious creatures. Jackaby is hard to read because it occasionally gets bogged down with description and the plot does not move especially fast.

However, the second book, Beastly Bones, is infinitely more enchanting. It's centered a little more around Abigail and the plot begins with a roaring head start when Abigail reads the paper and discovers a dig site where a massive skeleton has been discovered. I am just starting this book but I am very excited to find out what's happening.
A Greyhound, A Groundhog
by Emily Jenkins
New Release!  Tuesday, January 3, 2017
A Greyhound, A Groundhog will be a new favorite read aloud at story time for all ages! A curious greyhound and an adorable groundhog wake up from their naps and are pleasantly surprised to find each other. The two become fast friends, chasing each other around, tumbling and rolling through the beautifully illustrated watercolor pages (Chris Appelhans). The book is a fun tongue twister and plays on rhyming words. The pairs' friendship and a sweet ending will make you want to read it all over again!

Egg
by Kevin Henkes
New Release! Tuesday, January 3, 2017
Less than 20 words are needed to tell this sweet and simple story of four seemingly similar eggs. This book is about noticing a break in the pattern, a crack in the egg, and a change in the heart. Henkes uses a limited color palette to artfully demonstrate that everything is not what it seems, plans can change, and that’s ok. This book is an aesthetically pleasing and fun read. It will live quite comfortably on the shelf alongside your other favorite Henkes picture books!
