Stage 6 of the Amgen 'Tour de California,' the most important Cycling Race now in the United States, this Friday Afternoon, climbs from Palmdale in Southern California's High Desert up the Mountain Roads to Big Bear Lake, where the JazzTrax Festival will be held in Just 1 More Month.

This Mini Tour De France, which began Sunday in Petaluma, California, winding down through San Francisco, Monterrey/Carmel and the Central California Coastline,  will this Friday, with a Network Camera staged from a helicopter follow the cyclists all the way up to 7,000 feet to Snow Summit, a Mile from the JazzTrax Festival Site,Lakeside in the Village of Big Bear Lake.

Friday's Cycling Climb up to Big Bear Lake in the Southern California Mountains is the most grueling, demanding stage of the entire 8 day race that continues on Saturday up to Mt. Baldy and ends on Sunday in Downtown Los Angeles at L.A. Live.

From the perspective from the Air, on the NBC Sports Network THIS FRIDAY you will see just how glorious Big Bear Lake and it's surrounding mountain terrain is.  If you have already made plans to attend the JazzTrax Festival Above the Clouds June 22-24, viewing Big Bear Lake and the Roads Up to It this Friday should generate true Anticipation (think Carly Simon) for your arriving with Mindi Abair, Brian Culbertson, Paul Taylor, Jessy J, Marion Meadows, Jeff Golub, Jonathan Fritzen, Julian Vaughn and Rob Tardik in 4 weeks and a couple of days.   This race being broadcast daily this week on the NBC Sports Network, is now termed as an important preparation for July's most famous bike race, the Tour De France.  2 years ago, last time the Tour De California climbed into the mountains to Big Bear Lake, as the network presentation came to it's end, the network helicopter literally soared directly over the JazzTrax Festival site on the Lakeside Lawn of the Marina Resort and then over Producer Art Good's Cabin, before soaring over the San Bernardino National Forest headed for Mt. San Gorgonio, just beyond.  If you've been wondering exactly what the Flavor and Feel of Big Bear Lake might be, viewing the helicopter shots this Friday will Scream It At Ya.

Watch Right Now Mindi Abair's latest appearance on American Idol

As you watch Big Bear Lake this Friday on the NBC Sports Network you can dream of watching Saxophonist Mindi Abair performing on that same Lake in 4 weeks from the JazzTrax Floating Stage on that Mountain Lake in the Summertime Southern
California Mountains.  Just a week ago Mindi was yet again on the Top Rated American Idol Show, appearing on Sax again with contestant Phillip Phillips.  After all these appearances on IDOL, (and Letterman recently) Mindi has done a lot of talking with Idol
Judge,  Aerosmith Lead Singer Steven Tyler.  Our votes in for Steven to do a back-up vocal with Mindi on her next project.  If Mick Jagger could do it for Carly Simon 30 years ago on "You're So Vain" why not Steven backing Mindi now.  Mindi also appears TWICE on Catalina Island this October.   In the Avalon Ballroom looking out to Sea Saturday Night
Weekend l and Unplugged Under the Stars on Descanso Beach to begin Weekend 2.  Maybe she'll simply not even leave the Island between Saturday Oct. 6th and Thursday Oct. 11th.  Unless of course she's got a recording date in Hollywood with Steven Tyler.
Fingers Crossed.

Producer's Notes by JazzTrax Creator

by Art Good

This Picture of me shows how I look at my most relaxed moment.  At the JazzTrax Saturday Night After Parties on Descanso Beach in October.

Are you comin' this Fall......to Smooth Jazz Island?
Would you do me a huge personal favor.  If you are, would you Tell Someone Today?  It's the new thing when ordering tickets to a Miami Heat Game, which I did last month, or Orbitz hotel accommodations, they ask you soon as you order to tell someone you just did.  How bout doing the same for me?

You our golden festival goers, many of you who have been coming to Catalina Island and now Big Bear Lake in June for upwards of 25 years are our best voice, our best marketers.  We are this week beginning for the first time a 2 week advertising campaign on Pandora.com Radio.  If you tune into that in Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, the Inland Empire, Orange County or San Diego, you'll hear my short :15 ads and see our visual banner ads. We think we're going to be introducing our festivals to a whole lot of people who haven't heard of us before in Southern California.   You who are coming who haven't purchased tickets yet might think of getting those tickets now before maybe the table or Chaise Lounge chairs on Descanso Beach you wanted or VIP deck tables in Big Bear Lake next month are gone, purchased by somebody hearing of the JazzTrax Festivals from this Pandora.com campaign between now and June lst.
But nobody and I mean nobody and nothing.  No advertising campaigns, no billboards, nada has pushed JazzTrax Events and our Audience Growth More and Better THAN YOU!

You telling others around you of your experiences on Catalina Island in October and in Big Bear Lake in June.  Maybe you didn't know just how valuable YOU ARE!
Plus, advertising through YOU is FREE.  But how cool to know that we depend on your loving of JazzTrax Weekends, we've got 4 of 'em annually, and talking about it to keep our gigs goin'.  There is nothing finer, nor purer than Word of Mouth.  As next month's Big Bear Lake JazzTrax Festival is already selling at twice the volume to date of a year ago.  So could I ask ya?  Would you do me a favor.

Just pick someone, anybody, who might like Islands, or lakes in the summer in the mountains and smooth jazz....and don't wait, to tell.  Tell somebody right now that YOU ARE coming to JazzTrax on Big Bear Lake in June or JazzTrax on the Island in October.  Give them our website and if they are that good of friends with you, tell them you'll party together once there.  They may be coming in from a different city than you. Maybe a different state.  If it's Big Bear, tell them to watch the NBC Sports Network this Friday Afternoon ( 2 p.m. Western 5 p.m. Eastern) to see the aerial views by helicopter of the lake and mountains during the Tour de California Cycling Race.  Tell them about the Stars of Smooth Jazz performing from the Floating Stage.
Send them this link (Print the Big Bear Artist Line-Up) so they know who's performing.  Or e-mail them some of your pictures from your October's on Catalina Island. Maybe at the AfterParties on the Beach.  Or on the Verandah of the Ballroom looking out over the Pacific Ocean from 6 Stories UP.  Or at the Marlin Club if they're legal!

Facebook this friend.  Or Twitter this friend.  Or Text this friend.  Or e-mail this friend.   Or forward this e-mail to this friend, but with a personal message of course. Or call this friend.  Maybe you've got a few friend's like me who you've rekindled long lost friendships through a college or high school reunion.  I've already invited an NFL referee.   A General Manager of a Major League Baseball Club.  I did not invite Boxer Timothy Bradley even though I walked right past him by the JazzTrax mailbox here in Palm Springs last month.   Although if he wasn't busy he might be interested.  To your FRIEND.....Suggest Big Bear Lake or Catalina Island would be a great spot to finally get together.  Away from it all.   Away from Everything....cept Smooth Jazz.   Maybe that little get together will grow to 3 couples soon or 4 or 5.  Actually that has already happened over the years at JazzTrax Festivals.   I once walked up on a table of 5 couples at the Country Club Patio in Avalon during JazzTrax.   I asked who was the original couple to come to our festival.   That couple was from L.A.   They pointed to the couple from Atlanta
they asked to next join them on the Island who pointed to the couple from Washington D.C. who talked the  next couple into coming from Detroit. All had been friends in like high school and now in their 50's they all loved smooth jazz and were meeting up once a year, every year now, at JazzTrax on the Island.

I ran into a long lost friend and his wife from college days at Azusa Pacific from the early 70's a few weeks ago.   They live now in Salem, Oregon where I got my start in
radio way back then.   He the pastor of the Presbyterian Church near the Oregon State Capital and one of his parishioners hired me back in 1976 to run his FM radio
station.   I invited all of them.  To Smooth Jazz Island.

HELP US BE BIGGER
After all I've already mentioned I'm beginning to work on the Artist Line-Ups for 2013.  If we grow in audience this Fall on the Island as we are already growing in audience this Summer on the Lake I can throw an extra 10 grand at Boney James or Dave Koz or maybe an extra 20 grand at George Benson to finally get these Jazz Cats back to the Island or with Benson, for the first time.  You know business.    Money talks, even and especially with big name smooth jazz cats.
Besides.....you've got the best friends in the world and we want 'em at the longest running smooth jazz festivals in the world...the grand daddy's of 'em all...and voted
best jazz festival in America in 2011.

See you shortly alongside Big Bear Lake and puttin' a few down upstairs at Nottingham's late on a Summer Night. Then maybe at the roarin' Avalon Grille, across from the Green Pier late on an October Night. In All the World.....there ain't NUTHIN' LIKE THIS....so tell somebody.   Much appreciated.

Art Good
