Wapello Children Learn About the Mobile Learning Program

On November 17 IPTV held an event at the Wapello Public Library where kids enjoyed learning about PBS apps. IPTV offered app codes, obtained through the Mobile Learning Program, to allow these to be downloaded at no charge. Wild Kratts: Mimic in the Grass
Grades 1-3

Join Chris and Martin as the discover how mimicry is an important defense mechanism for many animals in nature. In this full episode with accompanying clips, Martin and Chris encounter a cheetah cub and its mom while on a mission to find how mimicry works. But before they know it, evil fashion designer, Donita Donata, 'cat-naps' the startled mom right in front of their eyes. The Wild Kratts team springs into action on a rescue mission before Donita adds the momma cheetah to her new fall line. Martin discovers that the cheetah cub has unexpected powers of mimicry, and it's ability to mimic the ferocious honey badger is the key to foiling Donita and protecting the cheetah. Martha Speaks Reading Buddies Up Close
Grades K-1, 4-5

Martha Speaks, a PBS KIDS television series, aims to help children build their oral vocabulary-an important early literacy skill. In this video, a media specialist and fourth-grade teachers describe the fun-and learning-that takes place during the program: First-grade and fourth-grade students pair up once a week to watch a Martha Speaks video, read together, practice vocabulary words, and do activities. The video shows the bond that forms between younger and older students, and demonstrates how the program brings about improvements not only in reading and vocabulary, but in social skills as well. Learn More

Grades 5-8

Inspired by content from the upcoming PBS series Earth: A New Wild, the Ecosystem Explorer is a collection of videos, games, and infographics designed to take students deep into the ecosystems of three thrilling animals: vultures, wolves and sharks. Use the related videos highlighted in this resource to introduce each ecosystem and discover that the relationship between animals and humans is often much more complicated than we realize. Then, encourage students to play through the interactive and discover more exciting science about the ecology and conservation of these three worlds. Learn More
