The latest OAR video describes OAR's role in the Criminal Justice System and demonstrates how our services create safer communities.  The video includes compelling client interviews and behind the scenes footage in the local jail.

We would like to thank Brenton Nickens, Savannah Guernsey, Lindsey Doane, and Vincenza Githens of the Emerging Leaders Institute, Sheriff Stacey Kincaid, and the Channel 16 staff for all of their work to make this video possible.  We would also like to thank Fairfax County Board Chair Sharon Bulova for her dedicated support of the OAR mission.

Laptop Donation for a Basic Computer Skills class in the Loudoun Jail

The National Recreation and Park Association has generously donated 10 laptops to OAR valued at approximately $2,000.  Thank you NRPA! laptop

OAR intends to use the laptops to launch a Basic Computer Skills program in the Loudoun Jail.  However, we still need some support from the community.  We need to purchase software licenses for ProfessorTeaches software and we need to obtain a rolling cart that we can use to transport the computers in and out of classrooms at the jail.  We will also need volunteers to help teach the class.  Learn more about our plans and p lease contact OAR if you can help!
Recent Funding Awards

Fairfax County: A loyal funding partnerFunding

In the Fall of last year, OAR applied for funding through the Fairfax County Consolidated Community Funding Pool to support reentry and family programs in the County.  The CCFP application process is very competitive and only a handful of programs receive funding.  OAR is very pleased to announce that we have been awarded funding for the next two fiscal years.

We are grateful that OAR is recognized by local leaders and the community as a valuable part of the criminal justice system.
The Apex Foundation increases their support!

The Apex Foundation has a long standing relationship with OAR and believes in the importance of the OAR mission.

This year, Apex has more than tripled support for OAR services.  Apex funding will allow OAR to increase pre-release services in Prince William County and initiate a Fatherhood program in the Loudoun County jail.

Thank you Apex!  We truly value your support.
Loudoun County is a new funding partner

With a very limited budget, OAR has provided pre and post reentry services in Loudoun County for over 20 years.  We applied for funding through a Loudoun County Non-profit Funding stream.  We were ranked by the grant reviewers as being in the top 1/3 of all applications and have been recommended for funding.  Resources from Loudoun County will bring greater stability to OAR programs in that community and help reduce criminal recidivism.  This will lead to greater community safety and lower criminal justice system costs.  We are pleased to have support from the Loudoun community.
OAR honors Jim Kennedy, a distinguished OAR volunteerJim

In 1994 Jim Kennedy saw a listing in The Washington Post advertising a need for volunteers at OAR.  He clipped the ad and set it aside.  A short time later he contacted OAR and said he would like to help.

Jim was a skilled and experienced professor having taught communication courses at The University of Virginia.  He reviewed the available volunteer opportunities and agreed to facilitate a Life Skills class for female inmates at the Fairfax jail.

This spring, twenty two years later, Jim announced he would retire from his career as an OAR volunteer.  Jim donated nearly 2,500 hours of service in support of the OAR mission.  Thank you Jim for your sincere commitment to the OAR mission and the clients we serve.
