Hello BB! Family,
A group of men (and women) called The Old Dudes Motorcycle Club have certainly dedicated themselves to Beyond Boobs! this awesome August. At their recent check presentation we were reminded once again why we are so grateful to be"joined at the ribbon" with them.  Their loyalty and commitment inspire us to kick cancer's butt each and every day.  Thank you Old Dudes for being on this ride with us and sharing your words below with all of our family and friends.
Hugs, Mary beth

Dear Friends of BB!,

This year marks the 3rd year the Old Dudes Motorcycle Club has supported Beyond Boobs. Often when the Club is out spreading the message of good breast health and raising money it is asked, "Why Beyond Boobs"? The answer is clear and direct- THE MISSION.

A cancer diagnosis is a destructive and scary event and for a premenopausal woman it can be devastating. Having the tools and support to navigate the rough seas of cancer can make all the difference in the world. Physical health, mental health, spiritual health, relationship health can all be effected. With few resources available to a young person- particularly at the local level- the Co-founders created the organization to fill the need in the community. No other organization was serving the young population and no other organization was addressing the needs
of the young survivor. By fulfilling the mission women have been able to have their questions answered, have a safe place to address their needs, have flourished with support and have eased the burden for entire families.

The community has benefitted as well from the breast health education. By informing the community of the risks involved, countless people have taken a proactive stand with their own health. An early diagnosis is a treatable diagnosis and many have taken action by performing breath self exams and by getting their mammograms. Countless lives have been saved and that knowledge has broken the cycle of ignorance and misinformation. Now THAT is worth supporting.

Old Dudes Motorcycle Club and Beyond Boobs! Joined at the Ribbon Once Again

On June 14, 2014, the Old Dudes M/C brought in record crowds for the 13th Annual Poker Run and Auction that began at Quaker Steak & Lube in Newport News. Over 150 motorcycles and cars attended the event to support Beyond Boobs! as they traveled more than 93 miles throughout the roads and byways of the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula areas.
Every detail of the event went off without a hitch even down to the beautiful roses presented to each survivor in attendance; such a thoughtful thing to do in honor of their fight against cancer. The ride concluded at Hoss's Deli in Newport News with a lunch buffet, live auction, live music, and awards to the best poker hand, worst hand, and 50/50 raffle. Beyond Boobs! wants to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every member of the club and their volunteers for their tireless work and dedication to this event and the mission of BB! everyday of the year.
Our Boober! Holly Carlson says it best, "Spending the day with you Old Dudes is the highlight of my year!!! It's about losing yourself for a little while. The warm sun, the wind on my face... pure freedom... y'all are the greatest. Thank you, thank you so very much!"

Full Coverage of our Not Your Typical Support Systems

As Beyond Boobs! begins to grow and reach more young women diagnosed before menopause, Not Your Typical Support (NYTS) systems are going to pop up everywhere. Starting in September, BB! will have 13 NYTS systems expanding from Richmond, Virginia, to Melbourne, Florida. In just Tidewater alone, we have the Suffolk NYTS system starting September 22nd under the fantastic facilitation skills of Boober! Kelly Black and the Norfolk NYTS system starts October 1st led by our own 2015 calendar girl, Michele Yepez. Shelly Gardner, Ms. July 2011, has partnered with the newly relocated Williamsburg Boober!, Andrea Dion, to start the Melbourne NYTS system on September 4th. Beyond Boobs! is beyond excited to share our Boober! love with young women diagnosed before menopause throughout the southeast United States and help bring breast health education to all. In this amazing time, we are hopeful that these new adventures further expose the wonderful work everyone is doing to take women beyond awareness of breast cancer to the action required to ensure early detection.

LUCRIS
32, Diagnosed at 29, No Immediate Family History

Student, US Army retired, wife, and mother to two young children, Luciris noticed soon after the birth of her second child that the skin on her breast had changed and begun to resemble an orange peel. She knew something was very wrong, but it took doctors five months to diagnose inflammatory breast cancer, an uncommon and aggressive form not characterized by a lump. She had chemotherapy and radiation followed by a bilateral mastectomy. Luciris loves the strong, determined, confident woman she has become, and this image represents the profuse GROWTH she has experienced since her diagnosis.  Read more and hear her story too!
