Double Trouble State Park

609-726-1191
Take in over 8000 acres of a significant natural, cultural, and recreational environment of the high quality Pine Barrens watershed and an extremely well preserved historic village associated with New Jersey cranberry agriculture and Atlantic White Cedar logging and milling industries.
Island Beach State Park
Seaside Park 732-793-0506
Shaped by storm and tides, Island Beach State Park is a narrow barrier island stretching for 10 miles between the restless Atlantic Ocean and the historic Barnegat Bay.Over 3,000 acres and 10 miles of coastal dunes remain almost untouched since Henry Hudson first described New Jersey's coast from the ship, the Half Moon, in 1609. Enjoy a self-guided experience through the
Discovery Trails System with Wayside exhibits located along each trail. The bayside of the island is a nutrient-rich feeding ground for birds, fish and other wildlife and an excellent resource for surf fishing. Horseback riding is permitted from October 1 through April 30.
Get lost in "The Gateway to the Pines" and enjoy the beauty, history and natural surroundings of the Pine Barrens through informational exhibits, live animals and environmental programs. Breathtaking views of the surrounding Pine Barrens forest can be taken in from the observation deck perched 5-stories atop the nature center. Have a picnic, play sports, visit the playground, or hike and bike our 8+ miles of nature trails.
This magnificent facility in Lakewood has a rich and fascinating history.
Formerly John D. Rockefeller's Vacation Estate.
White pine, Norway spruces, hemlock and other unique specimen trees, were imported by Rockefeller from all over the country. Tennis courts, open play fields, and a driving range, all free of charge. During the winter, the park is transformed into a lovely and silent winter wonderland after a snowfall; it's a great site for cross-country skiing.
Beautiful Wells Mills Lake has trails, including a "VIP" (Visually Impaired Persons) Trail, meandering around it, perfect for a leisurely stroll through the 900 acres of Pine Barrens located within Wells Mills County Park, distinction of the largest park in the Ocean County park system. Enjoy the scenic overlook of the 34 acre Wells Mills Lake from the three-story nature center the "Elizabeth Meirs Morgan Observation Deck", recently dedicated in honor of a very active naturalist and conservationist in Ocean County. Environmental programs and classes are held regularly at Wells Mills, with experienced naturalists available to answer any questions you may have about the ecology of this area.
