Greetings from California School for the Deaf!
As we enter the third week of school, so much is already happening at CSD. Our doors are open to students, families, staff, and community. Our teachers and students have returned to school in high spirits, filled with great energy.

, the CSD team is already at work ensuring that there are rigorous activities in place for every student who comes to CSD. We would like to present the activities to you via this newsletter! We wish we could include all of our activities, but we hope you can get an idea through these August highlights.
CSD strives to be relevant to the community, and we have already started some of our community collaboration for this year. We are proud to have established relationships with stakeholders who have a vested interest in our school.

for being awarded MaxPreps California Small School Coach of the Year. In her first season as Head Coach, Jeanne led Fremont to 20-3 record, BCL East League and North Coast Section Championship. She is known as a great leader and team builder.

Congratulations to Ryan Lentz for being awarded NDIAA Coach of the Year. He led Fremont baseball to a 11-10 record, North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs berth, and is known among his peers as a great teacher of the game and character.

Class of 1981 Reunion at CSD Fremont

CSD was honored to be invited to the Class of 1981 reunion dinner on August 9. The Class of 1981 had their reunion at CSD for four days, August 7-11. It was evident to us that they appreciated the opportunity to stay in one of the cottages. During dinner time, they shared memories and life stories with each other.

|
At the gathering, we had Ken Norton (former Dean of Students) and Gene Duve (Class Sponsor) with the group. It is always great to witness such a gathering where people continue to embrace each other and CSD!

The American Cochlear Implant Alliance (ACIA) is an organization that promotes research, advocacy and awareness regarding cochlear implants. Indeed, we know that Deaf children are receiving implants at a very early age and their families receive mixed messages about the benefits of American Sign Language. ACIA hosts conferences each year and recently, they sponsored the 15th Symposium on Cochlear Implants in Children in San Francisco. Because it was in our "backyard", CSD was proud to have a poster session entitled "Bilingualism and Cochlear Implants: A realm of Possibilities" presented by Rory Osbrink (Middle School Principal), Laura T. Petersen (Early Intervention Consultant), and Michele Berke (Student Outcomes Specialist). In addition, CSD had a booth which allowed for a lot of meaningful conversations with vendors, CI users, doctors, audiologists, and researchers.

La Alianza americana de implantes cocleares (ACIA) es una organización que promueve la investigación, la abogacía y la sensibilización sobre los implantes cocleares. De hecho, sabemos que los niños sordos están recibiendo implantes a una edad muy temprana y sus familias reciben mensajes mixtos sobre los beneficios del lenguaje de señas americano. ACIA organiza conferencias cada año y recientemente, patrocinaron el decimoquinto Simposio sobre implantes cocleares en niños en San Francisco.
