We'll post every kid or teen's artwork on our website - featuring animals of Guana!
Greetings!

We'll post every kid or teen's artwork on our website who enters the Save Guana Now Online Art Show! What a thrill for your child, grandchild or student to see his or her own artwork online!  You've seen our yard signs featuring animals of Guana Preserve. Now we want kids and teens K thru 12 to create artwork featuring any animal that lives in Guana, with the winning art to be featured on a yard sign like the example above.  You can send a photo or a scan of the art to: info@SaveGuanaNow.org, or deliver the original  for us to photograph . Be sure to include the artist's name and age. (Ages will be listed online for every entry; name will be listed only if permission is given by parent.)

The winner will receive a Save Guana Now yard sign featuring his or her artwork!  If you're on Facebook, you can view all of our yard signs here (while you're on that page, please like, share and follow our Facebook page, and invite your friends who live locally to do the same.) Suggested donation to enter the Save Guana Now Online Art Show: $5. All proceeds support the work of Save Guana Now .

The artwork could feature a mammal, bird, reptile, crustacean, insect - but  not ocean life since we're only featuring animals that could potentially live at the Outpost - the 99 acres of privately-owned conservation land we're fighting to save from development. The Outpost borders Guana River for a mile, so the artwork could feature a fish or other inhabitant of the river that we seek to protect from polluted run-off that could be caused by 77 homes built on river's edge.

RULES: Kids and teens, Kindergarten thru 12th grade who live in St. Johns or Duval Counties, create artwork in a horizontal format.  Any type or size of paper or canvas is fine - even chalk on chalkboard. Any medium except photography is acceptable.  Paint, crayon, pastels, colored pencils, collage - you name it. For inspiration, look  here and  here . However, many more animals live in Guana than are featured on our website. Questions? Reply to this email.

To enter, you can pay the $5 suggested donation  here or mail a check to Save Guana Now, P.O. Box 2111, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32004. (Make check payable to Save Guana Now.) If you'd like a free bumper sticker with your entry, let us know which sticker and where to mail it.

Deadline for entries:  April 1.

Judging will be based on graphic impact of artwork, so older artists will not have an advantage over younger artists in competing for the yard sign art.  Winning entry will be announced at the Save Guana Gala, April 8, and winner will be notified by email.

Our Save Guana Gala fundraising event,  April 8, will take place at a private home on Guana Lake overlooking the Outpost. This will be memorable evening with a catered dinner, live music, and wonderful silent auction items. A sold-out event will put us in great shape to pay our expert and legal bills, so please help us make that a reality! What a fun way to donate to Save Guana Now!

UPDATE:  We have just learned that April 3 is the court date for the hearing for Ponte Vedra Corporation's lawsuit against St. John's County regarding the Outpost property. This proceeding is open to the public if you wish to attend, it's at 2:45 PM, room 305 at 4010 Lewis Speedway, St. Augustine, FL  32084 (Chambers of Judge J. Michael Traynor).  However, your attendance will really matter at the hearings in front of the PZA board and the county commissioners.  Such a hearing could be announced at any time. Please spread the word about our efforts to stop development at the Outpost to those who cherish the natural beauty of Guana and the wildlife  it protects.
If you haven't already done so....
  • Write or call county officials. (Commissioners Dean and Waldron are newly elected.)
  • Write letters to editors.
  • Order a bumper sticker. (Or two.) This is the most effective way we can publicly show how many people want to save the Outpost from development. A $5 suggested donation gives you a choice of 5 great designs including the spoonbill below. Bumper sticker free with entry to the Child's Art Show.

We hope you'll help a child or teen enter the Save Guana Now Online Art Show!
