Jefferson Cup College Showcase

Congratulations to our U15 and U16 AP teams for crushing it down in Virginia at the Jefferson Cup.  Both teams ended with a 1-1-1 record playing against the top teams in the country.  The 16s went out with a bang after defeating PDA ECNL (New Jersey) 2-1 in their final game of the weekend.  The 15s lost to PDA 2-1 who ended up winning the tournament.  Congrats to all of the girls representing Massachusetts and South Shore Select.

Select U14 AP Featured on Jefferson Cup website!

The Jefferson Cup wrote a fantastic article about our U14 Champions from last weekend's tournament!  Here is what it read:

U-14 Championship Division

Massachusetts side South Shore Select U-14 AP capped off a perfect run at the Jefferson Cup with a fourth straight win in Sunday's championship match against BRYC Elite Academy 03/04. South Shore defeated the Virginia State Cup champions 3-1 in the final, finishing the tournament with another outstanding effort on both sides of the pitch.

Forward  Allyson Sentnor (Hanson) was a dominant force for South Shore, showcasing her playmaking and goal scoring abilities while also applying heavy defensive pressure against the opposing back lines as they tried to advance the ball.

Meanwhile, South Shore gave up only two goals over the course of the four matches.  Lilly Reale (Rockland)Hannah Callanan (Scituate)Kendal McCluskey (Scituate) and  Ava Melia (Hanson) each covered significant ground throughout the defensive zone, while also making passes and starting runs into the midfield. Goalkeeper  Katherine Lynch (Hanover) was terrific in net when called upon, as she and her teammates held their
prolific opponents in check.

South Shore earned clean sheets against ECNL sides Gwinnett S occer Academy and Maryland United FC in group play, and gave up just o ne goal each to BRYC and Ohio South State Cup champion Cincinnati United Premier 03 Gold."

Congrats, girls, on a very successful tournament!

Lilly Reale, Coach Liz Lima and proud dad J eff Reale 'even more excited  than his daughter'!

Leadership Workshop!

South Shore Select will be partnering up with Edgework Consulting to run a leadership workshop this Spring on Tuesdays or Thursdays for our girls.

We are excited to offer our girls a unique opportunity to complete a four part leadership training series exclusive to our players.

Over the 4 weeks, players will learn the following:
  • An increased understanding of leadership qualities and styles to further develop strengths as a leader.
  • A toolkit to build confidence and resiliency.
  • Effective communication & accountability skills for emerging leaders to use on and off the field.
We will be releasing registration for this workshop this Thursday evening at 5:30pm (in fairness to all).   We anticipate that this program will fill up quickly, so please register early to avoid disappointment.  More details to come.

Select's Ava Melia Invited to id2 Training Camp

Congratulations to our very own Ava Melia who represented Massachusetts and South Shore Select out in Indiana this past week at the Nike id2 camp!  The id2 training camps are held for the best players in the country and we are so proud of Ava.

Ava has been playing with Select since she first started playing soccer at the age of 7!  Currently, Ava plays for our U14 AP team as an outside back.  She was a key component to the team's success at the Jefferson Cup last weekend, as she was responsible for covering the opponent's most threatening players.

"Ava is one of the most intelligent and humble kids we know.   She gives 100% at every practice and game she plays in and she epitomizes what it means to be a Select player", said AP Program Director, Liz Lima.  We couldn't be more proud of her success and we look forward to seeing all of the amazing things she will continue to do, both on and off the field.  Awesome job, Ava!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

          Select's Featured Coach
          Brendan Hamilton

Brendan joined South Shore Select this past Fall. Growing up, Brendan played both soccer and baseball.  As a baseball player, he played on the All-Star baseball team (including playing in Cooperstown at age 12) from age 8-16.  As a soccer goalie, Brendan played for North Attleboro High School. During his senior year, his team was ranked number 2 in the state.  He also had 17 shut outs out of the 21 games he played in that year. He also swam and ran track in high school.

Brendan continued his soccer career at Nichols College in Dudley, MA where he was a four year starter.  During his junior year there, his team made it to NCAA Tournament, largely due to Brendan's 11 shut outs.  Brendan was ranked in the top five for goalkeepers in three categories which were Save Percentage, Shut Outs, and Goals Against Average.  He also made the First Team All New England and First Team Conference.  That year was also the first time that his school ever made the NCAA Tournament.

After college, Brendan was invited to the Info Sport Pro Combine, which was coached by multiple MLS and NASL Coaches.  There, he was coached by the assistant coach of the Chicago Fire.  Brendan was ranked 16 out of the 36 goalies that attended.

Brendan began coaching after his experience at the Sport Pro Combine. He started as the North Attleboro High School J.V. Coach.  He then took a job as a Nichols College Men's Assistant Coach, helping the team to the second NCAA appearance in 2014, while also coaching for the club, Kings FC.

He made the move to South Shore Select this Fall and we could not be happier to welcome Brendan to our Select family.  He is a true class act and he is Select through and through!

Brendan's parents' names are Brian and Rosie and he has a younger sister named Melodie who works at Massachusetts General Hospital.
      A Head of the Game
       Start Smart. Finish Strong

In  the United States, over 300,000 sports-related concussions soccer annually. and the likelihood of suffering a concussion while playing  a contact sport is estimated to be as high as 19% per year of play/  More than 62,000 concussions are sustained each year in high school contact sports.

Dear Parents,

Having a Baseline test in place is an invaluable tool used by doctors to determine the severity of a concussion and to provide proper treatment. Along with physical assessment, ImPACT testing puts a strong foundation in place to manage the concussion properly and return your student athlete to school and to play.  ImPACT testing is a computerized neurocognitive exam that measures your child's cognitive abilities such as recall, reaction time and pattern recognition.  The test takes approximately 35 minutes to administer. Test scores on ImPACTS secure site and are password protected.  Test results are provided to ImPACT Specialists if an injury is suspected.  Test scores are then compared to the baseline test.  Post injury testing and visits are provided by Credential ImPACT Consultants listed on the ImPACT website. BASELINE TESTING IS $45 AND IS VALID FOR 2 YEARS. South Shore Select will cover this fee for any of our U11 and Up players who get a baseline test though Jeanine Donato.

Please contact Jeanine Donato directly to book your appointment today.
