Selina Chow Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

At the Asian American Commission's Unity Dinner on June 3, BCNC Board President, Selina Chow, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for displaying "longstanding and exemplary dedication to supporting the Asian American and Pacific Islander community." Selina is a leader in the civic, philanthropic, and business communities in Boston, and has played an instrumental role in BCNC's continued growth, including our expansion of services to the Quincy community. Congratulations to our incredible leader and supporter, Selina Chow!

$100K from Cummings Foundation

We are ecstatic to announce BCNC received a $100,000 grant from Cummings Foundation as one of the nonprofits to receive funds through the Foundation's "$100K for 100" Program. Thanks to the Cummings Foundation, this grant will allow us to enhance our family-centered approach and move closer to fulfilling our vision of supporting families to be strong, healthy, and safe.
Parent Speaks Up for Language Access

Maggie Tan, BCNC participant and mother of two daughters, was discouraged by the amount of barriers her family faced due to limited access to language support. These barriers included difficultly securing housing and other benefits, as well as navigating public school registration. On May 10, Maggie spoke at the Boston Language Access Ordinance Hearing at Boston City Hall to advocate for language access. She described language as a "powerful and essential tool for helping immigrants find their voice to live in this country like normal residents." We are proud of Maggie's ambition to have her voice heard!

MIT Executive MBA Students Consult BCNC

Thank you to Building Impact for connecting MIT Executive MBA Students with BCNC to provide consultation services. The students delivered strategies and solutions to bolster hiring practices and sustainable staffing for our Red Oak After School and Summer Programs. We plan to incorporate the group's recommendations and expertise into our future hiring strategies!
BCNC Portraits: Chi Wan Chow

Chi Wan Chow was illiterate in both English and Chinese when she emigrated from Myammar, and two of her three children were diagnosed with hearing impairments. She turned to BCNC for support, and learned how to advocate for her children at their Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.  Today, the Chow Family is thriving and strong. Mrs. Chow is a active leader in the community, serving on her children's school parent council, on the Boston Public Schools Special Needs Parent Advisory Council, and even advocating for other non-English-speaking parents. Click here for a video of Mrs. Chow's inspiring story!
Sampling Local Flavors in Quincy

On Saturday, May 21, BCNC hosted its second annual Savor the Flavor reception to support family-centered programming in Quincy. Over 100 guests sampled food and beverages from local eateries including Vivi Bubble Tea, JP Fuji Group, and Royal Hotpot. Guests heard from youth leaders and adult student, Ya Na Chen, about how BCNC is impacting their lives.  Congratulations to Vivi Bubble Tea Cafe Quincy for being voted "Best Flavor" of the entire event!

Special thanks to Co-Chairs, Russell Chin and Lori Wirkus, and lead sponsors, Tufts Medical Center and South Cove Community Health Center.
