Now through Valentine's day, honor the animal-lover in your life with a specially-designed Valentine e-card when you donate to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA). Your gesture will be extra-special as your donation brings aid to animals in our community.
Can flowers or chocolate do that?

We need your help to treat dogs with heartworm.
Your donation goes directly to the AWLA Sarah's Fund to treat critically ill animals, including dogs who are suffering from heartworm. Heartworm is a serious infestation that is fatal without treatment. Sadly, a large number of dogs are heartworm positive when they arrive at the shelter, some surrendered because their owners cannot absorb the cost an extensive treatment. The AWLA is committed to helping every animal that arrives with heartworm. This illness should not stand in the way of an animal finding a new home.
Big-Hearted Bullwinkle
Bullwinkle is a five-year-old Mastiff mix with a really big heart. A big heart that was seriously infected with heartworm. Thanks to donations to Sarah's Fund, Bullwinkle is undergoing his heartworm treatment in foster care and feeling much better.

Tireless Tico
Tico is an extremely energetic juvenille whose heartworm is difficult to treat because he does not like to stay quiet so that the medication can take effect. His foster is working closely with veterinary staff to make sure that Tico "follows orders" to improve his health.
