It's all about your pets:
Our pets are part of our family!  What a better way to keep them healthy than with a pet clinic visit.  Lake County is on top of that.  AND If you just got a new pet and would like training - well we have you covered there too.

The Grayslake AND Round Lake Area Park Districts have combined forces and are holding a pet training course.  What great team work!  Kudos to both Park Districts!

2017 Spring Hydrant Flushing Schedule
A Message from Lake County Public Works:

Lake County Public Works will conduct its semi-annual water hydrant flushing program beginning April 3, 2017, depending on weather conditions.

The process will be performed daily, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., per the hydrant flushing schedule and will continue until all water mains throughout the water systems have been flushed.

After flushing you may notice a slight discoloration of the water. Residents are urged not to do laundry during periods of flushing in your area to avoid staining of clothing, which may occur due to the disturbance in the water main. This is not harmful and will dissipate after a short time. It is recommended to run cold water for several minutes to clear your pipes.

The anticipated completion date is April 28, 2017. Signs will be posted in each area before the start of hydrant flushing. Please visit Lake County's website or call 847.377.7500.

Meals on Wheels!
It is disheartening to hear more and more about the cuts that are being talked about to the services that people need the most.  One of those services being tossed around as if it were less than fragile is Meals on Wheels.  If you have never heard about Meals on Wheels - it is a  service that Catholic Charities provides HOT fully cooked meals to seniors.  Each day a volunteer delivers a full hot meal to a Senior.  It provides not only a complete hot meal that includes fruit, milk, bread, but it also provides a friendly face at the door.  It provides Catholic Charities with the opportunity to offer other services and to do a wellness check on the resident receiving the meal.  It offers the resident freedom to live in their home. Because if they were not receiving this meal, or this wellness check, they may be forced to live in a senior living establishment.

On March 20th, Catholic Charities invited local elected officials to deliver meals.  To see firsthand what the program was all about.  Although Avon Township has been volunteers that have delivered meals in the past, when they ask, you go.

I had the opportunity to be welcomed into the home of Avon Township resident Sol Melamed.  Sol was very happy to see us, and he was happy to introduce us to his 14 year old pup that has his own chair complete with a nice blanket.  Although Sol cannot fully care for himself, he is still able to live in his home thanks to programs that Catholic Charities provides.  Avon Township has been of service to him by providing him rides on our van.

Hello!

I hope all is well with you!  Welcome to the time of 'What I wear depends on the hour of the day, not the whole day itself' or known as Spring in the Midwest!

You will start to see construction sites picking up where they left off last fall.  We are already seeing it outside our own window.  The Washington Street Project should be starting back up in the next few weeks. (weather permitted).

If you know of residents or neighbors who you think may like to receive local news, please forward this to them and invite them to sign up.  Thanks for passing on the news.

Nobody took me up on my offer last month, but we will try again:  The first 10 folks that come in and say they read the newsletter all the way down to THIS sentence, will get a treat.  It is limited to the first 25 folks, and only 1 per person.  KEY word: "Welcome to Spring at Avon Township".

Hope to see all of you at our Annual Town Meeting on April 11, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.!
