Regarding God's Creation
Gen 7:19  The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains  everywhere under the heavens  were covered. ... 8:4  In the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark rested upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 The water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.   - NASU       (Bold emphasis added.)

                 Who is Influencing Who ?

Five hundred years ago Martin Luther set the Protestant Reformation in full motion by nailing his famous Ninety-Five Theses to his
church door in 1517. At the center of the protest were corruptions like the selling of indulgences by the Pope of that time. Luther also taught that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge from God and that salvation and eternal life are received only as a free gift of God's grace through the believer's faith in Jesus Christ. Later Popes cleaned up much of that corruption but maintain some theological differences.

Look at society around us today. We might wonder whether the Christian community or the secular community is influencing the other more. The secular science institutions insist on a materialist viewpoint for all their publications, research funding, and promotion
into their controlling bodies like the National Academy of Sciences. The leaders of the science institutions have become in effect the high priests of secular society. Their materialism completely excludes any sort of God from their worldview. Many of these people end up worshiping mankind as the potential solver of all problems. Their religion is called "Humanism". The materialist/Humanist wholly reject the Bible as anything more than a human invention.

The GHCA and similar creation organizations study science with the assumption that God did what He says in the Bible reading Genesis in a straight forward way as narrative. When we look at the body of physical evidence, we find very much that clearly supports our assumption. The amount of evidence and its systematic support is growing rapidly. Much of the Christian community joins our recognition of the creation presentation in Genesis as straightforward narrative. Many others are still not aware of the strong physical evidence for a young supernatural creation. (For a few examples see the postscript below.)

Some in the Christian community try to straddle the gap between secular materialism and Christian theism and the word of God. They try to combine the pronouncements of the high priests of materialism with some allegorized version of Genesis. Such Christians feel that it is
easier to evangelize the materialist and humanist in society if they find some way to understand the Bible that does not conflict with the materialist's "scientific" view of nature. It is easier to start a conversation that way. It is easier if we ask for only a small step toward theism to start with. But it is not a good place to stop because one will be teaching by example that one can allegorize anything in the Bible that is inconvenient. That is not a good foundation for the development of strong committed faith in God.

Note that statistics consistently show that of the Christian high school graduates that go off to college and face the materialist/Humanist dominated academic atmosphere there, 75% leave their faith. So again, one should ask who is influencing society more, the Humanists or the Christians?

On September 7th, the GHCA will host Dr. Jan Lohmeyer who will address some of the above issues and more in a presentation titled
Theistic Evolution: The New Cancer in the Christian Church. Lohmeyer is highly qualified for this as Apologetics Instructor, Lutheran High North of Houston and Adjunct Professor - Concordia University, Texas. Our past experience is that Dr. Lohmeyer will bring an impressive level of penetrating insight to his subject. All should look forward to this event; it will be well worth your time and trouble.

Meeting space kindly provided at:
Houston's First Baptist Church
7401 Katy Freeway at Post Oak
Room 143,   7 PM

School is starting up and the evolution indoctrination will start too.  Come and bring your students, friends, skeptics, or pastors! All are welcome to bring their questions and join the discussion.  There will be great fellowship, snacks, and array of creation books and DVDs as well.  Please forward this newsletter to all who might be interested.

 Blessings to all,

P.S.
Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
  • Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
  • For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record.
  • The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
  • In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the deep space motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all of this are assumptions that may be quite incorrect. Not the least is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.

There is more about the role of assumptions in science found on our website here.

Prayer Needs and Praises!

Christians around the world are being persecuted and murdered to force them out of their homes or to change their faith. Pray for protection for and support from Christian organizations in the West.

John Morris  is said to be recovering well now. But continue to pray for John and all the leaders, researchers, and writers in the YEC community.

AIG, CMI, CRS, ICR, and LRA (Logos Research Ass.)  the big five YEC creation organizations doing active research, publication and speaking. Pray for inspiration, enabling and financing.
