Prince George County - Pork Butts and Beefsteak???
What does the Little Pig say? WEE, WEE, WEE, all the way home. No, No! WOW, WOW, WOW Pork Butts in Prince George County.
 
After 25 years, the Pork Butt Festival is returning to Prince George County, VA, on September 24, 2016.  The original founders were a small group who got together for a "venison cookout in 1986."  Over the years, the event grew into a festival that attracted more than 1,000 people to Flowerdew Hundred Plantation in the year 2000 (year of the last event).  This celebration will include good food and drinks (ID may be required), live music and games for all ages.   In support of Prince George Promise, please bring any used youth sports equipment as a donation.  General Admission Tickets are $12.50 (kids 12 and under are free) and includes a keepsake PG stadium cup; listening to two great, local bands; amusements for kids and adult; and free parking.   No coolers or outside alcohol allowed.  Chairs and blankets are welcome.  For tickets and more information, go to: www.PGPorkButtFestival.com .  Festival location is Temple Recreation Park, 14307 Prince George Drive, Prince George, VA, and time is from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.   
 
 
Great Beefsteak Raid of the Civil War is quite a story [LOL]. Join the Petersburg National Battlefield Park Ranger, Tracy Chernault, with a showing of "Alvarez Kelly" in analyzing the "The Great Beefsteak Raid" through the eyes of Hollywood. Time and location is 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Petersburg National Battlefield, Eastern Front Visitor Center, 5001 Siege Road, Petersburg.  FREE. Cows, no.  But, we do have BEEFSTEAKS.  Prince George Regional Heritage Center will celebrate the Great Beefsteak Raid with its 8th Annual Great Beefsteak Raid Commemorative Dinner on September 21, 2016.  This event will feature live music, weapons display and demonstrations, exhibits and re-enactors, auction of period items, and cornhole competition.  The steak dinner, prepared by Disputanta Ruritan Club, will include beverage and special desserts.  Cost is $30 per person and free hotdog meal for ages 12 and under.  Tickets are available at PG Heritage Center, 804 863-0212, [email protected] Disputanta Ruritan Club, 536-3407; Sebera's Prince George; Joyner's Paint & Frame, Petersburg; Ligon Jones Insurance, Hopewell; County of Prince George Treasurer's Office.  Time and location is 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Scott Memorial Park, 6680 Courthouse Rd, Prince George, VA.

The General Store at Smith Mountain Lake - Specializes in Virginia-made products from food, handmade gifts, candies, snacks to old-fashion toys. Visit the Quilt Shack, a part of the store that retails handmade quilts, made by local artists.  


 
Yoder's Country Market is about 30 minutes north of Charlottesville.  It is part store and part farm.  It has a deli with over 150 meats and cheese; hand dipped ice cream; Amish-made baked goods, breads, and desserts, and gifts.  Next, head outside to the barnyard and feed the goats and watch them cross a 15-foot high skywalk and more.     
 
 
Floyd Country Store in Southwest Virginia not only offers homemade country food, milkshakes, and hand dipped ice cream, but has a Friday Night Jamboree with bluegrass, gospel and country music bands.

Lieuenant Fawma is always on "duty" at Fort Lee!  Pay her a visit.  The US Army Women's Museum is dedicated to educating, instructing, and providing the history of military women.  It is the only museum of its kind designed ". . . to preserve, share, and teach the history of all Army Women . . . Last of the summer concert series sponsored by for Prince George County Parks and Recreation comes to a close, but not without GREAT entertainment. On September 10, 2016, the Prince George Rockin' Family Summer Concert Series is featuring the Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band - B2B. This Band plays a range of songs in a variety of styles. J.E.J Moore Athletic Complex at 11455 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, VA, will be "rockin'" beginning at 5:30 pm.  Cost is $5.00 per person, children 3 and under FREE. Hilarity and Love at its best at Swift Creek.  The Playhouse opens its doors on September 15, 2016, with "Almost Maine".  Here is a short description by the Playhouse.  "On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote mythical town of Almost, Maine.  As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often comical ways.  Knees are bruised.  Hearts are broken.  But the bruises heal and the hearts mend - almost - in this midwinter night's dream." To race or not to race, THAT is the question?   Either way, you are going to have FUN! The FOLAR Paddle or Battle is back.  If you missed this exciting leisure paddle or competitive race event last year, you won't want to miss it this year.  Experience beautiful water features, historic sites, and lots of fun floating on the Appomattox River from Hopewell's Marina to historic Pocahontas Island in Petersburg.  This is a 10-mile stretch of flat water in the tidal section of the Appomattox River.  A continental breakfast or lunch will be available.  There will be a trophy presentation at the finish.  The excitement begins on September 24, 2016, at 8:30 am - 11:00 am at the Hopewell Marina, 1051 Riverside Ave, Hopewell, VA.  For more information call 804 861-1666 or go to online registration at www.folar-va.org and more information.
